V8 MX83 Now definitely for sale! Wed, 07 May 2003 00:42 Go to next message
Due to an upcoming "change of focus", the Cressida will be up for sale shortly, probably in the next few months. <img height="17" width="17" src="images/smiley_icons/icon_sad.gif" border=0 alt="Sad">
Details are on the web-site, and are summarised below:
1989 MX83 GLX Cressida, Silver in colour.
Power Windows
Central-locking
Climate-control Air-conditioning
Tilt-adjustable, power-steering
Cruise control
6-speaker AM/FM radio/tape player (all stock)
Electric tilt/slide sun-roof
electric aerial
velour interior, in good nick.
Extras include:
1UZ-FE V8 Fitted at 203,000 kms, odometer now shows 211,000.(Engine has, we think, approx. 100,000 kms; not sure, but came from a Soarer import and we treated it as though it was "up" for the 100,000kms service - includes new timing belt, new ancillary belt, new platinum plugs, new oil (Penrite HPR15, since replaced again), transmission completely drained incl. Torque converter and re-filled with Toyota Type 4 fluid, plus pan filter and gasket, new P/S fluid with shield installed between PS reservoir and alternator in case of leaks N.B not leaking at the moment!, A/C re-gassed with R134A, cooling system flushed and new coolant added.
2.5" exhaust system. (Fitted late 2002)
Twin thermatic fans
Twin transmission coolers (V8 model for transmission, 4-cyl model for power-steering).
Autronic SMC engine management (Engine) and 7M/AT ECU (Transmission)
LSD (Hybrid, composed of MA70 Supra internals/MX83 housing)
Fully engineered, with Certificate to prove it.
17" "Performance" rims and 225/45ZR17 tyres (fitted in Feb. 2003)
Currently registered in ACT (6 months)

[update: Just had the brakes re-done, including fitting '93 model rotors and calipers and fitting Lucas pads all-round].

Looking for interest/indicative offers at this stage.

Things to do:
Sound system (optional)
Suspension (Optional, as factory stuff works; new owner may want something a little "sportier")
Tacho (needs to be wired)
Temp gauge (Sender unit, I think)

Car is nice to drive, and goes very well, particularly at cruising and "up" speeds. Very comfy and easy to drive over long distances. Attracts little or no "unwanted" attention.

Anyway, make offers here, PM me, or email biased99@hotmail.com with V8 Cressida in the subject line.

This is an excellent vehicle with practically everything done; as such, we are looking at offers from people who:
1) Are themselves, serious.
2) Can organise finance (given projected time-frame for sale, this shouldn't be too difficult)
3) Can offer the sort of money something like this should be worth; Note that we're not looking to make a King's ransom on the car, but more to suffer the smallest loss possible...

Regards,

*laughs* Yep, fair call...I would add though, that it is "sobering" to think just how quickly ones priorities can change...My intention last week was not to sell it; this week circumstances have decreed that I should think otherwise...

Anyway, I'll get in touch with you and we'll see what we can work out.

Of course I could...but I'd prefer that interested people make offers based on what they think the car is worth; I'll then make the determination as to whether it's going to cover my costs/not lose me too much money etc.

I might also add that, as a value guide, I'm using the sorts of offers Darren got on his Cressida, which is (minus sunroof, Climate-control and Autronic Razz ), identical to mine...

I don't see this as un-reasonable; it's just that, if I say "The car cost me (X)", then people will say "No worries, I'll offer you (X - Y)...You know what I mean! Confused

...3rd V8 Cressida? I don't think so.

In fact, the only other car similar to this one which has EVER been offered for sale (through this forum, or anywhere else, for that matter), was offered some time ago...

If you're talking about the 1JZ-powered versions, yes there have been a couple...Oh, and of course there was the $1000 example Laughing (not quite in the same league, and I'm sure Dean won't mind me saying so).

Oh, and BTW. Thanks for the compliment. As far as I'm concerned, the car represents "My" interpretation of how this particular car (which was, after all, Toyota's 1989 Flagship model - ie. this was as good as it got from them back then!) should have appeared from the factory!

Yep, I want decent money for it. That's because it's a VERY decent car, as the people who ogled it at the 'Nats would attest!

Why not post up the price you're aiming for? Something as 'rare' as this is hard to make a reasonable assumption on as far as value goes. At least you know how much it costs to do such a conversion, and therefore can surely nominate a reasonable sale price?

I'm hoping for around $15,000 for it. Sounds a lot, but not when you consider that we've "spared no expense" to this point - which means what's been done has been done properly, and wont need to be done again for a long while (if at all!)

Looking around yesterday, I saw a number of MX83s for sale (Trading Post, Carsales.com etc) ranging in price from $5-6000 for high-mileage units, up to $10,000+ for low kms, but otherwise stock, units Shocked While I know they're probably not worth that kind of money stock, I believe that ours is definitely a LOT better car than any stock MX83...

Anyway, I'm open to reasonable offers, but bear in mind that Darren got offers of anywhere from $12 -15K for his prior to taking it "off the market", so I am guided a little by this.

As the web-site says, I'm more than happy to take more photos of the car and provide them to seriously interested people...

PS. No "I don't think you'll get that money for it" comments please...

Well, as Michael Caton (sic) once said (In "The Castle"), "They wouldn't come up that often..."

...and that goes for both 1UZ and 2JZ Cressidas.

Mate if you want it, get in touch. If you need to arrange finance, then you may be in luck as the car doesn't need to be sold immediately, but can wait for a couple of months if need be. Obviously, we'd prefer to sell it sooner, but the option is there if required. If we have a firm offer, we'll simply detail it up and leave it in the garage until the buyer gets his/her "shit" together...

Thanks for the compliment...
As for the car, I had the diff looked at again the other week (meaning that I actually pulled it out and took it, along with my "known good" open centre, to yet another diff specialist). He put them both on a bench, spun the tail-shaft yoke on each once and said "Your LSD's bearing are stuffed..."

Needless to say, I wasn't happy Mad (A certain import spares place hasn't heard the last of this!). However, he made a good LSD by putting the LSD hemisphere into the open-centre diff, and I put it back into the car the next day (Saturday). Took it for a celebratory test drive (to get a few celebratory beers! Razz ) and...No noise!!! It feels and sounds like new!

The wife took it for a spin later and came back mumbling something about keeping it...I'll have to wait and see. It may be that we end up selling the poor old KE70 instead. Laughing

O.K.
I now need to sell the vehicle, as my wife and I have found a property we "can't refuse". (Welcome new phase of life...)

So, as stated previously, we want "around" $15k for it; however, we will negotiate with any potential buyer.

Note that we are not selling it bacause it needs major repairs. (Any things needing doing have already been mentioned and haven't changed).

Note also that we have driven the car in a variety of circumstances for approx. 10,000kms since the conversion was done. Except for a leaking diff (since rectified), the car has been absolutely trouble-free...

We do need the money (Otherwise we would not consider selling this excellent sleeper), so please make an offer.

We must sell within the next few weeks so, if you are considering a project such as this, NOW is the time to take advantage, and save yourself the leg-work etc that I've been through to get the car to this point.

N.B Car also includes original 15" rims and tyres and has a towbar (Engineered as part of the conversion process).

Rego 'till November '03 in the ACT.

Sorry guys, but I'm going to have to bump this thread once or twice a day (to keep it near the top) until I sell it, as we definitely need the money (plus what we can get for our existing property) in order to help fund this new property. (Which should give some idea of how much we want the property, as opposed to actually wanting to sell the car - we don't - but this is a necessity for us if we are to go ahead with the proerty deal...So, get in there and make an offer if you're after this kind of car. You won't see too many decent V8 MX83s around ( I know of only two), so don't miss the opportunity to own a nice, comfortable and reliable car at a realistic price. (For that, read: I will negotiate a fair price with any interested party).

Did I mention that I need the money?

So, MAKE AN OFFER. Smile

Hey Biased,

I'm sorry to see you parting with your car - it looks absolutely beautiful! And well worth your asking price. I hope you get what you want for it. And I really hope that you and the car will stay in the Toymods community - we'd all be worse off for losing both.

Good luck,

Cheers mate, I appreciate that!
There are a couple of reasons we need to part with the car.
1) We have decided that we can benefit from purchasing a property, and have stumbled upon one which is absolutely ideal.

2) While we will lose an excellent vehicle (and be sad at the loss), we do have a worthy replacement arriving next year (which we committed to and purchased in May), in the form of a fully-specced Celsior. So, we will still have a 1UZ-powered car to drive around! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

I guess my only real hope in the sale (apart from actually selling it Razz ) is that it goes to someone who will value it (and value-add to it) as we have endeavoured to do...

Isn't there anyone prepared to make an offer (a reasonable offer Razz ) on this beaut car???

C'mon...At least have a look at the thread and the web-site and make a judgement on what something like this would cost (in parts alone and to build), and, if it's the kind of thing you'd like (and, let's face it, who wouldn't??), then make me an offer...I'm not entirely unreasonable. Smile

hey biased just reading your web page and was interested to read this...

"The 1UZ-FE was used as a template by BMW when they designed the V8 which powers their current-model M5, which indicates what BMW thought of it."

Shocked is this true? if so... go toyota! i always said that if i was a rich man id be a BMW enthusiast, but after reading that i dont think theres much point in changing camps Laughing

Yes, that's the "rumour" going around...
It's more that they looked at the 1U and thought "How can we make a 300-odd KW NA engine with that kind of strength and reliability...I guess so that they didn't have to "re-invent the wheel".

Somehow I don't think the M5 engine is an "FE" spec motor, however! Laughing

No.
I meant that BMW wanted an engine making those kinds of numbers, with the reliability and longevity of the 1UZ.
1UZ is around 195KW in stock form.

Attached, please find a number of pics. Some are better quality, as they were taken during the day. I took some additional ones tonight, but these didn't turn out as well...

I'd definately buy the car at the right price but two things

1) Trying to sell my car (I've got a couple ppl coming tonight and tomorrow) and
2) The bits and pieces need to be done beforehand. A re-negotiated price could be done in consideration of additional work

Hang tight let you know in a couple days
