My understanding is 4AC flywheel is only 6 bolts, 4AGE is 8. So not possible.

Aparently some of the very early 4AGE's used a 6 bolt flywheel - but yeah, generally 99.9% of them are 8 bolt.

I should add you can use the 4AGE front wheel drive flywheels as well, as long as it's not a GZE one. the 86kW and 100kW flywheels are different sizes, both will fit but will need clutch and pressure plate to suit. You'll also need a spigot bearing which the FWD doesnt have.

put one of the gear box bolts into its thread and get a mate to jam a big screw driver to hold it from turning.

U can try putting a breaker bar and socket on the front of the engine on the bolt in the pulley/crank
Or you can try putting a very strong screw driver onto the ring gear and wedge it up against out of the dowls coming out the back of the block.

Yep cheers the only problem with the breaker bar on the pulley is that the engine is out of the car so i think it would just lever the engine up, tho i could get 3 or 4 of my mates to stand on a rather long piece tube and hold the breaker bar on like that
thanks for the ideas
Cheers

Big screwdriver is all you need though!

Hehe, it DOES work Its almost as innovative as my method of removing the crank pullet bolt with the engine on an engine stand and without a rattle gun!

Crank pulley bolt is even easier than that in some cases - leave a spanner on the front and start it up Used to do this ALL the time on my old man's car after setting the points etc. every, oooh, 3000km or whatever rediculously short time it was...

Yeah it will - but at least be generous enough to put the engine in with a new clutch...

yes indeed.
i use an 86kw flywheel as a DOOR STOP for my shed its nice and heavy
but seriously JCMF - i LOVE that idea of holding the flywheel while undoing the bolts - using chain - sensational. good lateral thinking dude.
