1JZ ignition problems Tue, 19 August 2003 04:31 Go to next message
Ok, my 1JZGTE seems to be having a couple of problems.

First of all the mods,

600x300x90 Bar and Plate cooler
2.5 and 3" SS Mandrel IC Piping
2.5" Dual Dumps straight off the turbos.
K&N Pod Filter

There is no boost control used.

Now at around 0.9bar - 1bar I am having the ignition breakdown and misfiring. I have hit 1.1bar and hit the boost cut so I know it's not that.

I have changed from the platiums to coppers with 8mm gap, no change.
I have changed the coils for 2JZ ones (same) and made no difference.
I have changed the igniter for a 2JZ one (same) and made no difference.

We did notice that the Map sensor was plugged into the wrong port on the plenum so we fixed that and plugged it into the filtered one. It fixed the problem for about a day but now it is back. Could a dodgy map sensor cause this?

The car seems to overboost though so I thinking that is a stuck wastegate and/or leaking wastegate line also.

do you have an immobilizer.

i had a similiar problem and it turned out to be the earth screw for the immobilizer had been attached to a screw that held the kick panel in and every time i hit boost the screw would move and the ingnition would break down, once i drilled it straight into the body work problem solved. thanks to my brant installer for that one.

it may not be your problem but i over looked this for weeks, changing coils, ingnitors, spark plugs.

just a thought

If this is a conversion, make sure you have a good power supply to the igniter. A drop in voltage (even slight) can cause this.

Well I solved it, well it's not doing it now anyway. I used a better screw. Yup the screw that was holding the map sensor to the firewall was coming loose. I changed it and now it's tight yas twight on the firewall and it's not doing it. I'd say the Map sensor must earth also this way even though it has a earth wire.. bizarre.
