99 WRX 4pot Calipers onto AE92? Wed, 22 October 2003 15:54 Go to next message
Just wondering if the above is do-able and if so
how much would the bracket joining the calipers to the
backing plate/axle thingy would set me back?

Also is it possible to make one of these brackets
and would a DIY braket be strong enough for a RALLY
application?

Thanks.

Anything can be done.. but seriously could you be fooked..
I reccommend you get yourself a set of jap levin Superstruts..
Hooge twin pistons with 275mm discs.. which are phat!
that would be way enough brakes for a ae92..

or if you really wanna go a 4 piston set so you can say to your mates.. "Ive got 4 pistons, blow me" then get a set of series 5 Turbo Rx7 units.. they are sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooo much lighter than the wrx units../
But you still need to make adaptor plates...
whereas with teh superstruts its a bolt on unit.
after you shave 5 mill off the disc dia.

The WRX ones aren't exactly what you'd call heavy though are they?

Corvid, thanks for advice but the reason I was thinking about the WRX 4piston is that its for RALLYING and 4 are better than
2! and they would slow me down much easier and have more bite than the 2 piston ones.

The AE101 superstrut ones work OK, but if you're after some 4 bangers, maybe look into the Nissan ones?

anyone know what the difference in piston area is between these 4 piston jobbies and other brakes??
after all, clamping force is what you are after, and that is only a ratio between the caliper piston area and your MC area, as is MC travel....

surely a 2 pot caliper with the same piston area as a 4 pot will have the same pad force for a given MC force??? then the only difference would be the 'even-ness' of load across the pad, giving more even pad wear (assuming same size pads??

or am i completely wrong??

The Subaru ones are cast iron, hence the big weight difference Smile Just found out Razz
