I used to use dexron 3 in my gz20 soarer which has an a340e and was recommended dexron 2. No problems but in hindsight i would have used toyota type 4 because of other people's recommendations.

funny, i was chasing this up last week for a friends merc.

they are recommended a Dexron II type, and it seems that Dexron III 'supersedes' II, kind like the rating of engine oil.. SP-CF?? whatever.

anyhoo, Dexron III should be fine for DEXRON II recommended boxes.

I was chasing it up as well for my MA61, Dextron III is the fluid avaliable and is running through my gearbox and power steering for months now with no trouble. Since I could not buy/find the original Toyota fluid that was in there.

Cheers.

Use Toyota Type IV as mentioned above.

It is supposed to be far superior, esp for the A43xx boxes

o.k.

now the tougher question

synth

which one , why , if at all.

price is $10-20 per L and you need 5-6 L for a T-50

Pennzoil is $20
and quaker state is $10

Who uses synthetic in their gear box ?

I've bought some Redline Lightweight Shockproof for my W57, but only becuase I'm putting uber power/torque through it (well, not as much as some).

I will post results when I finally get to drive her.

In some cases Dextron III can wear out your auto transmission clutch packs faster DEPENDING on the Transmission spec.. Castrol make a ATF oil call "Transmax "M" which is the same spec as Dextron II ...
