How much work/cost is involved with getting a hilux diff to fit my RA40? does it need to be shortened etc.? Thanx for the help, chris.

RN41 Hilux diff is approx 1410mm across from hub to hub with the drums on. What is the width of your RA40? Look at the difference (if there is any) and work it out.

This is just rough costing, but for my RA23 i was told that the diff centre itself was about $450, and about $1000 to get the whole thing hooked up, re-spline and shorten axles etc.

There you go, no need to do anything except to weld on the mounts.

Whatever disc/caliper combo you end up running, you will need a caliper mounting bracket made up. I'll be running 300 mm Merc discs with Volvo 4 spots with no handbrake.... I suppose a handbrake is doable using a MS112 or MA61 backing plate and internal drum mechanism, but it's not something I'll be pursuing. If you want in on that parade, email me....the brackets will work out cheaper for all that way. I'd imagine a couple of hundred bucks. It wont be till the end of this year though. Cheers Dave.

G'day,
Hey Darren are you sure bout that width? it though the 40 and the 28 had the same diff? i'm sure mine is bout 1370 from outside to outside....
Another option for a diff which is what i am sorting is a volvo diff. Benefits:-
Only slightly wider that the celica HUGE!!! axles Got good discs already Cheap as (about $150 - 250) Can purchase brand new detroit locker centre for bout $1000.
At the end of the day bout $1600, but will be heaps stronger and have a better centre.

The volvos come with a huge range of centres. but you won't find one of the factory lsd's, they are rare as - only came out behind the turbo. but if you are buying one of the after market centres you can choose your ratio.
As for the stud pattern, they are 5 stud, part of the cost to convert it to fit the celica included chaging the stud pattern to the celica.
