How to hook up a shift light with a digital dash tacho?

i'm wanting to put a shift light in my car but i've already got the tacho on my digital dash. Is it a straight forward thing just to wire it up or is it a hell of a hassle?

most decent shift lights will come with instructions on how to splice into your loom to get the tach signal from the computer
