Sorry its not a Toyota related question but something far far worse. Micro$oft.

Anyone know the affect of time sync problems on clusters? A cluster being the beast that is I'd imagine the time is pretty crucial been scouring the net for whitepapers ect on cluster tech with little luck..

Anyone?

Can you be more specific with the question ?
We used to run a cluster server at work in a test environment, so I've seen them working in action.
I think the OS keeps track of time sync.

hey soarer

win2k 4 nodes - uses AD to keep sync of time from the DC's - i know this for sure.

question is what affect would the time being out on one of the DC's have on SQL/MSCS - ie: so lets say one of the nodes gets 2 mins out/behind one of the other nodes - what could potentially happen?

You should be able to synch the primary node with an NTP server.

eg. net time /setsntp:ntp.ise.canberra.edu.au

As for the other machines maintaining "synch", this should be done automatically, with the primary node being the only one which should need to synch from an external time source as above.

Hope this helps...

Yup, I think biased99 has got it right. Other servers will sync with primary.
