5M-E power...116hp? 103kw?? Fri, 27 August 2004 01:43 Go to next message
i've been doing sum research on how much power the 5M-E has. most sites say its 116hp at 4800rpm
http://www.jzxproject.com/toyota_engines.html

then i read the australia brochure for the MA61 Celica Supra and it claims 103kw
http://www.celicasupra.com/brochures/aussieBinder. pdf

then i went to a site that explains the difference between SAE net hp, DIN hp, bhp etc.
http://neptune.spacebears.com/opine/horsepwr.html

the numbers just dont add up. 103 kw is roughly 138bhp. Does anyone know why some places say 116hp and some say 103kw? Did Australia have a different spec 5M-E to other countries??

Its a 5m-e, I wouldnt worry about how much power is isnt, or is producing.

I'd be more worried about how I would get the money to swap it for a better motor.

A 1jzge would make fuck all power over a 5me.
Its no work horse.

Get a 2jzge if you want an NA 6, or a 1uzfe if you want an 8

well, i want to keep it n/a. i dont think i can afford a 2jz-gte anyway. they cost around $5000 dont they? plus i will need a lot more done to make it all run. i wanna stick with I-6 engines, a supra tradition Smile so the 1jz-ge is the logical choice

1jzge is not work it. 2jzge NA is not much more expensive and are easier to come accross. And have a lot more power.

2jzge = 250hp and easier to mod and easier to find, probly cheaper after sourcing one.

1jz with vvti = pricey and rare
2jz with no vvti = cheaper and common, it has also got 50nm more torque, and 170ish kW

There was an importers thread in tech and conversions a month or so ago.
Do a search, locate it, read it, call them

For the 5m-e?

Some had a catalytic converter, that reduces a bit of power, some had the EGR system, that reduces a bit more, some were Japan spec, so better fuel, less emmissions, thus more power.

But in general, no, its strange.
