5M-GE - Replace 2LT Wed, 22 September 2004 22:21 Go to next message
Hi All,

I am thinking of putting a 5MGE in my hilux surf IFS to replace a 2LT. Does this swap ok. Has anyone done it?

I heard there might be an issue on an IFS with the 5M-GE Sump.

Any feedback will be appreciated.

Thanks

do a search on here: http://www.outerlimits4x4.com/PHP_Modules/phpBB2/

I have a solid axle 84 lux with a 5mge. it should be running within the next week if i pull my finger out.

I think the engine mounts with the 2lt line up very closely to the 5mge ones. you can also have a look here: http://www.4wd.net.nz/suprasurf.htm

and here: http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/tech/supra/swap1p3.h tm

you can get diferent sumps to fit around the ifs im quite sure.

How old is your Hilux? If it's newer than 1986, a 5M conversion won't be legal. Sad

Unless that 5MGE is from a Cressida.

7mge, the longer stroke would perhaps work better for a 4wd...

it isnt called a tractor engine for nothing Razz

Stroke isn't going to make up for a litre of missing displacement.

I have heard there are space issues with the 1uz-fe
although gotta love the sound of a V8.

The sump is apparently an issue with the IFS on these and also trying to keep them cool is very hard in the surf.

I am not sure of this, just what I have been told.

1UZFE is fairly wide yes, but you could be a pioneer! Get out your tape measure and see if it'd fit. There are a few different sump setups available and surely one of them, or a slightly modified one of them would have to fit.

i think its only some states that enforce the "engine must not be older than car" rule...

i think, anyone clarify this?
