DIY Check Engine Light Sun, 26 September 2004 23:52 Go to next message
Hi all.
I have shoe-horned a 1G-GZE into my RA23. I want to check for any error codes the ECU may be throwing up.
Using the diagnostic port do I:

1. Put a 12v globe in line with the 'W' port and then run the wire to earth ?

2. Bridge E1 and TE1 (or is it TE2?) and 'short' the ECU?

3. Count the flashes and then post up here again to ask what they mean ?

Thanks for your advice.

Cheers,
Mitch.

pretty much, yes, but the globe must be of low wattage for it to work correctly.

sort of 5w max, otherwise you get a wrong reading.

try using an LED

Also try Grant's new page at www.sixworks.com.au in the tech data section, the toyota tech is good.

I'm just about to so the same conversion into an ra28, i assume all went well... any thing you came accross that was tricky? i'm just doing the timing belt and replacing little things at present and tidying up etc

Thank's Steve and Gleno, I will try that out and check out Grant's page as well.
I found plenty of things that stuffed me up completely, but 99% was as a result of me trying to 'improve' things that did not really need it, so depending on what you are doing exactly, will dictate the problems you may have. If you have anything in particular to ask, fire away and I will try and help.
Cheers,
Mitch.

I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure that the transistor in the ecu switches to ground which would mean you want the globe/led to be inline with b+ and W, or something along those lines. Try W to earth first, just to be safe.

Cheers,
James
