3SGTE Questions Thu, 30 December 2004 21:09 Go to next message
Hey guys i was wondering what the normal operating temperature is at idle and while driving on my 94 model 3SGTE motor. At the moment it is running at 90 degrees celcius at idle and have yet to take it out to check the temp while driving. Also can anyone tell me what psi i can run with a stock motor with a 3 inch exhuast, top mount cooler, vl turbo fuel pump, k&n filter and a bov and roughly what power outputs a 3SGTE in my tune would make.
Also as i have only just put my car back together my engine is in need of a descent tuning. I am running a stock 3SGTE ecu can anyone recomend a workshop preferably on the south coast or wollongong to take it too and if possible a contact number.

Cheers lads

90 degrees maybe slightly warm but not by much. In the summer mine will sometimes get up and stay up around there. Doesn't worry me too much. It depends whether you have a ceramic turbo or a steel turbo in regards to safe levels of boost. I have a ceramic turbo and ive heard they're good for about 15-16 psi. The steel ones can handle more.

Wont the operating temps be listed in a tune up guide?
90 doesn't sound too bad to me as most thermostats that I have seen in modern engines tend to be around the 88deg mark.

Yes it would be in an owners manual or something similar but i do not have access to one thats the only problem. so can anyone with a gt4 owners manual tell me the operating temps that the manual has listed as i have only just got the motor put in and dont want to do any damage to it.

well my thermo fan switches on at about 92degrees and drops down to 84 degrees when the fan switches off. i'd sat the temps are normal.it gets really hot under the engine bay of a 3sgte!
