1G-GZE modifications Sat, 01 January 2005 09:32 Go to next message
I'm after some information regarding mods to a 1g-gze which is currently fitted in an RA23 Celica. I don't know a huge amount about these engines (I'm a 2TG man Very Happy ), the car is a friends and he seems to be getting led up the garden path by a workshop who will remain nameless at the moment.

1. What boost pressure is a reliable amount on one of these
engines in internally standard trim with unknown k's?

2. How much boost did the HKS pulley kits give them?
It is fitted with Wolf3D ECU and standard injectors.
3. What sort of power will the standard injectors support?
4. Would I be correct in assuming that extractors would make a
sizable increase in power? I realise these would probably have
to be custom made.

The workshop is claiming that the engine will support 18psi with standard injectors, methonal injection and no intercooler.

Any help would be great.
Thanks in advance.

the charger thats on there wont support much over 11 psi reliably so you are going to need a charger / turbo upgrade. from forum reports, injectors max out somewhere around 195 -200 rwkw. TO4 kits are common and not too expensie and probably a better way to go. compression is 8:1 on those motors and they have strong internals, so they can probably fairly reliably support 18psi on standard internals.
intercooling is always recomended.

methanol requries v.different injectors (unless you flush them and the fuel lines after use with petrol) and meth also requries a great deal more volume of fuel than the stock injectors would supply.

if they were spraying methanol via extra injectors as a means to cool the engine down (and add some power) then it no intercooler might suffice for drag work - but not for normal driving with occiasional hwy blasts.

have a look thru the events threads on dyno days - you'll see what various 1G-Gxx's have acheived power-output-wise.

extractors might improve power somewhat - but once on boost, it's the induction system that will mostly determine power output (unless you have a 1 1/2" system in it)
