Yes, all Australian-delivered versions come with the 3S-GE. In some markets, notably the US, atmo MR2's come with the 5S-FE Camry engine.

Thanks for the information.
Thats great because ive heard 5sfe's are gutless.
Is it worth getting a not turbo aussie version MR2?
I ask this because I dont want to pay huge insurance payments on a turbo car because I am under 25.
How do they handle?
Thanks

They handle as well as you can drive one.......
They got a bad rap cause journalists can't drive and infrequently admit their own mistakes or limitations.
Mine is a turbo, but the non-turbo is still a good car. Late model "beams" NA version is a quick car.
They all launch very hard, and put any power they do have to the ground very well.
Even non turbo insurance may not be great but.......

Locally-delivered ones are much better for resale value if that means anything to you. A friend of mine has a 97 model, and despite the lack of turbo it goes very well indeed. Being a mid-engined car their handling characteristics are a bit different to what most people are used to, so they often get unfairly labelled as having ordinary handling. The fact is, in the right hands they will run rings around just about anything in their class.

From what I've seen, all imports have crappy resale... I'm not aware of the MR2 being any different.

Norbie, the resale is fine........its definitely no worse than the non-turbo.
I think this is influenced by the fact that it's essentially the same as an Australian car, just with a turbo, so carries a lot less "import" associated problems.

I got a turbo MR2 (luv her lots I do). The handling is pretty damn good.
I would assume the non-turbo Aust delivered would be just as good to handle minus the torque of a GT of course.
btw, I am insured again so I can finally get out on cruises with you lot again.
try this website for info on the MR2
www.mr2club.com.au
They got links to other sites around the world with all manner of info on the MR2.
