Ryan's JZX73... 2jz-ge Manual Cressida (now with working pics 56k beware)

Well, my 6m blew its headgasket and shagged its main bearings.
After budgeting, it turned out cheaper to whack in a well priced 2jz-ge rather than repair the 6m. The 2jz-ge would be attached to other parts I had been collecting for a 2jz-gte conversion, which will still happen when the fiscal department permits purchase of an Elusive Giant Japanese Crustacean. But for now, I need cheap reliability, and that's what I'll have.
The conversion will include:
1993 supra-sourced 2jz-ge with loom and factory m/t computer,
jza71 sourced r154 (which still had a factory clutch at the time of box removal),
OS-giken twinplate clutch, with pushmepullme converter for the diaphragm spring,
and an ma61 LSD, soon to be trutrac'd (group buy permitting).
As it is, the car has an fairly average silver body, blue interior, and Koni shocks and custom 2inch low K-Mac springs all round. It also has a towbar, woo!
Photos to come very soon.

Apologies for image size, my limited PC knowledge barely stretches to MSpaint.
Engine is -as photos show- in the car. Thanks very much for the offer of help CrUZsida, I hope I've sorted it out now, if not, I'll send away.
Had a hiccup with the original starter motor, spin windings open circuit. Fitted the starter from the other 2j in the shed, problem solvered.
The clutch pedal is as heavy as buggery. Did Toyota make any smaller clutch masters than 5/8? Will I have to get this ra65 one sleeved?
All heater hoses from M were able to be re-used. They'll be fine for now.
I'm wondering about choices for primary tailshaft segment. Looks as if I'll send an a340e buttplug and uni and the original half shaft to the engineers and get them to join the bits together.
Many more pics available, engine mounts, sump to crossmember clearance etc.

Oh, thats an R154.
Hahah, I thought it was a W58 from first inspection.
So the motor is in the same position as the 6mge was.
Yes, get the A340E yoke put onto your current tail shaft, and get it lengthed, about 80mm ish from memory.
(pics sizes are fine btw)
I'd say your clutch pedal is so heavy because thats a twin plate clutch isn't it?
But its all in the clutch.
I had a 4m clutch behind my 6m, and it was as heavy as buggery (and as weak as piss). I now have a 2200lb clutch behind the 1uz, with the same master and slave cylinder, and its like stepping on a marshmallow.
Its seriously as light as most 4cyl clutches.
Looking good though.
Post all the pics you like too, the more the merrier.

How much of the tranny tunnel needed 'massaging' ?
I've been tempted to upgrade to R154, but undecided if its worth it.

Much of the trans tunnel needed massaging. It looks okay now, but it'll go for a drive tomorrow, we'll see then. MrShin did well, massaging it through various creative means- he seems to have an appetite for destruction. He will put up some pics later, he has broadband- and I don't!
The motor is quite a tight fit between the radiator and firewall. It was lucky that the gearshift lines up, especally using the auto's crossmember, bolting straight on.
The tailshaft had to be lengthened by about an inch. It's in now, fits perfectly.

Dr. Shin prepares for a little work
Dig those 10 amp shoelaces!
Constant interruption by visitors..
Shinny looks at the engine mount...
...and decides to weld it. Quite revolutionary, really.
Here's what shinny would do to your backyard if he moved in...
Resident Cressida Consultant shows those young idiots how it's done...
Shinny does the washing...

Mr Shin performs yet another of his infamous wiring jobs. Think it'll work well in wet weather?
Believe it or not, it's actually running in this pic. Damned camera is a bit quick for the fan...

This nasty contraction is why your clutch is so heavy!
Anyhoo, looking good.
You'll love the performance over the 6mge, plus manual just makes it so much more fun!

Are you suggesting that the 6M actually featured some kind of PERFORMANCE?? Well, I guess it WAS rather exceptional at dropping oil... er... Leaking coolant perhaps? Oooh, and smoking! Plus even Texas/Iraq would be proud of the amount of oil deposited on the underside of this car - let's just say I don't see it rusting through the floor any time soon...

Hey, mine didnt leak coolant, or oil, but by god it loved to burn the shit!
And yes, you step out of a 5me auto into a 6mge manual, and the word performance does spring to mind, its all relative!

Perhaps they do - well why is it that when we took it for a couple of laps of the block, that a number of people were standing out the front shaking their fists? I'm fairly sure they didn't look too happy Also, I think they were a bit put out as to why on earth a Cressida was burling around sans helipad, I mean bonnet.

Put it together for a 20 minute drive today, still with no exhaust. Golly, what a note. Rear tyres attended the MrShin diet clinic.
And shoot me for saying it, but it FEELS as slow as the old 6M, though on the speedo it is actually much quicker. Luxobarge syndrome, I think they call it. I'll have to wind up the Koni's all the way- the car rides waves on gearshift.
It goes in for exhaust on Tuesday, and a few other tidbits will be tidied up through the week. Fitment of a Jaycar Digital Fuel Adjuster will be considered after a run with the EGO sensor. I'll let you few know how it goes.
Magic balancing 50 cent coin photos coming soon.

Hahah, even the 1uz doesn't 'feel' quicker than the 6m did.
But when you see the needle climb from like 120 to 170 in 4th in no time at all, you know its a dickload faster.

Apparently, my buttcrack is a point of fascination for Ryan. What am I SUPPOSED to do? All good workmen show crack!
Look everyone, it's the amazing balancing coin - another of Ryan's little fascinations. At least you can see the engine is running this time!
Apparently, this photo is significant - personally, stuffed if I can tell the difference from before. Or was that the idea?
And before anyone pipes up, no, the air filter will NOT be left there. I'll fiddle with it a bit, tidy things up, drive it for a day or two, and see if it's happy once it gets an exhaust. Then, as said, stick the wideband in it, and see how unreasonably rich it runs. Ultimately, I think I have some kind of interest in the turbo engine going in myself

Yes, this is Ryan Smart..Wes?
Regarding the holden 5 stud:
It would have worked. A fair while ago, I sent my HSV rotors to a highly recommended engineer to be redrilled in ford 5 stud. Ford 5 stud would be a much more sensible option, you see. Anyways, first hole the engineer drills = through reinforcement webbing. This bloke owns a large engineering business in Lilydale, and can't drill a hole in the right place. I had a bad feeling all along. Next time, I go on gut instinct.
So brakes = major setback, CrUZ. Either way, I've been offered some Brembos for a modest sum, and I insist on going against the norm, ie as big rotors as possible. With crown arms on the rear and skyline rotors on those, we'll see how she pulls up.

I'm runnnig Skyline brakes on the front now.
Its only 280mm, but the 4 spots really pull it up.
Best thing is it fits under the stock rim, so new wheels are not needed straight up.
If I can find some R33 GTR calipers, I'll upgrade to the 326?mm rotors.
I highly recommend it.

Oh dear. Considering you make the average garden rake look substantial, I think you should find a better option!
I've got the 297 Nissan brakes on my Corolla. Works alright, got the bigger ones on my Sprinter, be interesting to see how well they work when she's going. Note that everything around the backyard has 5 stud wheels on it (earlier photos)
Interesting about the mixtures, and I'd hope they are somewhere there - I'll check it out tomorrow night if I get time.
