FREAKY and MYSELF have been talking stereos and he has come up with the idea of toymods sound off. There are dyno days for the REV heads (NO OFFENCE) we were just wondering if we could organise some kind of SOUND OFFS for all the toymods AUDIOPHILES (MANI AND KARL INCLUDED)
Just wondering if we can make this happen, as we feel it would be a great way to bring the audio boys togethter and give the subbies a blast.
ANYONE INTERESTED IN BEING INVOLVED.
LEMME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK

Bah !

I blew the rear speakers in my Soarer yesterday... not happy Jan!

Time for some new ones. That'll teach me to over-amplify stock speakers Sad

Not looking forward to replacing the speakers in the front doors though. Looks like a nightmare to get to those.

After you take the dor trim off, there are about 4 or 5 screws holding the plastic box in place. Its just a major pain in the ass taking the trim off

i will be there... but expect a full company backing of Jaycar on my behalf hehehe
i wonder how many 15" subs i can fit into a KE50?? hrm... 4 would be ok....

If we do this Justin.... then i think there must be a few groundrules and stuff layed down. Take the example of the Dyno days. There should be a few classes, and i've come up with a couple of ideas thinking about this idly myself!

following the latest Aussie dB Drag classes:
- Street 1-2 subs (1 amp)
- Street 3-4 subs (2 Amps)

- SuperStreet 1-2 subs (1 amp)
- Superstreet 3-4 subs (2 amps

NB: only the subwoofer driving amplifiers are counted... since this is a dB contest, then normal speakers don't count.

and i doubt any of us have walls, extreme systems or anything above this.. so i doubt anything more is really needed

So my idea is something along these lines:

db contest Up tp 2 subs, 1 amp
dB contest for 3 or 4 subs, up to 2 amps
crazy rich bastard (award for best overall install, voted by all attending)
db king

What do you think mate? if you want clarification anyone just ask.. but im only giving ideas for now. Obviously we can't really go crazy, but a bit of separation is a good idea i think.

ok, as far as judging goes... a venue that has a professional comp. quality dB meter is required... else a contact with someone who can supply us with one for the day would be very nice! Then its just a matter of picking the loudest in each category.

AS far as the rich bastard prize goes... its a matter of peers voting for the nicest install.... maybe even an internet poll? who knows...

numbers, i think will not be a problem...Rolla Boy hasnt even posted yet... Laughing

And i think u might be the closest competition for me justin... but i rekon RRP$ should be noted for comparison....hehehe then i win...

yeah, i reckon there should be catagories for RRP as well coz u can buy like a $2000 u 12 inch subs compared to like $300 subs and amps and stuff, also clarity of sound maybe, and reduced rattling??

How about you have a real sound category? Anyone can throw subs and amps into a car, but to have the music sounding as it's meant to is another league altogether.

You can make either:

1. Pure doof doof doof.

2. Music and lyrics sound right. (Right mix of treble to go with the bass).

WHO/HOW will we judge who has the best REPRODUCTION OF MUSIC??
Every one likes to hear music played differently, eg some like more bass and for us DEAF ones, maybe just a bit more VOLUME.

well you'd need a proffessional audiophile.

These guys do exsist but they wouldn't be cheap.

Also I'd find it hard to believe that their oppion of a good sounding system would be the same as any of the people competing.

On a side note.... does anyone else think its strange that people have completely forgotten about midrange these days

For instance:
Quote:

2. Music and lyrics sound right. (Right mix of treble to go with the bass).

I mean.... without any midrange its hardly going to be a good reproduction is it?

hence my liberal use of component speakers like this....

blaupunkt 6.5" velocity 2 way component system.... its pretty( and sweet sounding voices too!)
http://groups.msn.com/_Secure/0SwAAAJgWNF51WaL3ktZRyPH1wwJvUG77dWinIsyeg6Tm9chlSWEMcRuVcZjMQOxbK4iwM!k5k2RBY4epOCV2mykbw6fw8vr7KMLvqxjxb2p8J3ww8MZypg/blau-velocity-1.jpg?dc=4675397774789306690

as far as SQ (sounds quality) goes... its impossible to judge something such as that... i think for now it will have to be a simple, cheap and fun event for a bunch of crazy people to go silly on, like us! Razz

And trust me it takes A LOT MORE THAN just "throwing subs and amps into a car" to produce decent dB numbers.... i've been there and failed! I have also worked in the car audio industry so i know what goes on with high powered dB installs. i challenge anyone here to break into 140dB... its difficult! damn difficult!!

I guess you could have one song on a CD that isn't all bass and is just that, a proper song with someone singing and judge what you think sounds best on a particular system. I hear car audio is hard to get decent sound out of compared to a proper home sound system, (Because of the confines of the car and accoustics of it). I suppose that can be my point.

THE FACT THAT MIDRANGE HAS BEEN COMPLETELY FORGOTEN, is entierly UNTRUE, i have a system in mid that will create the full sound stage, not just BOOM AND BING. I think the reason more people are neglecting the mid range acoustics is because of the price of component systems and midbass drivers are not very cheap and people feel that the extra dollars for the amp and speakers are not need when they have BING AND BOOM.

im thinking this might require a company sponsor.... someone with a competition level dB meter..... i know strathfield and incar have them...
I might look into this a bit further... but if it requires the use of someone's shop for all or half a day, then it might be worth talking to the board about it, to see their stance.

it costs about $10 dollars for a couple of runs.

hi guys

sounds like you have some great ideas.

i can't speak on behalf of the board... but if you get enough interest and can find a dB meter i'm pretty confident that we can help you make this an 'official event'.

possibly along the lines of a cruise and sound-off competition

unfortunately we don't have the time to organise it ourselves at the moment but if you get the ball rolling and stick with it i'm sure we can help out.

good luck

thanks danny!!

i was also referring to the fact that if we were to obtain a dB meter, because of the sheer cost of the equipment, it would porbably have to be a sponsered or "shut-down shop" event for the onwer (in that i doubt they will loan us the equipment).... and in which case we would probably have to talk to you guys if we were to be using the Toymods name.

Im sure Justin and Freaky and i will have a look around to see what we can do... if we can get the meter... we will happily organise the event!!

but still they have good prices and generally know what they're doing to point u in the right direction of what to buy, and not just so they can sell something they have too much of etc.

Guys,

The Soundoff Idea is great. Before we could make it official we need to check with the insurance compnay and see if we are covered for that sort of thing. I am pretty sure we would be !

Oh and not everyone is just in it for the Doof doof. A good mate of mine (who may attend:) ) Has a system that gets great quality sound he prides himself on the clarity and the fact that from outside the car there is no annoying panel rattle. The fact that it gets 135 db is rarely mentioned !

Still to measure clarity takes some specialist equipment I would suggest you just stick to the DB readings for now that will e a big enough challenge !

Keep us informed Smile

What do you mean Doran aren't friendly?

Your just not mentioning the right words like..... 'what if I pay in cash'

Seriously.... they generally have some really good deals on a selected range or products (ie the ones their overstocked on)

You've just got to go at the right time and look at what they have stacked to the roof and then bargain a little. normally they won't argue as their trying to push the stuff out quick smart.

Soarer doors aren't that hard to take off!

Unclip the door switches with something like a flathead...

There's 8 screw (from memory) that you need to remove - three under the door (crouch under the door and you'll see them spanning across the plastic part), 2 where the armrest sections are (feel under it), 2 at the front on each door (under the plastic cap things, pry those off but be careful not to score the vinyl) and one behind the door handle black piece (pry it off with a flat head)

It basically pulls out from there!

Rod,

yeah i don't know if we would go so far as to make it an official event, but if its easier and better then sure mate! It all depends on interest from people of course!
I was talking more about the fact that if we needed to use someones premeses or borrow them and their equipment for a day, and associate that with the Toymods name, then i thought we should check with the board first.... just for approval etc Smile

Well im going to look into who out there has this equipment, and who would be willing to support a small group event such as this.
Of course for those entering there would be a small entrance fee, minimal of course, just to pay for the use of equipment... but i'll find out all the necassary info ASAP.
Looks like i'll be doing a call around today!!

Keep the interest burning people! Tell your mates! Borrow your sister's dihatsu and chuck a few 15's in it... GO CRAZY! i would really like to see some good competition here!

UPDATE!

i just talked to the owner of Incar Audio and Security at Windsor. To say the guy was a champ would be understated. They are more than willing to help out car clubs hold these sort of events, as he has done it for the V8 dunnydore club for the past two years (i think that was the club). I explained about how there wont be much interest to begin with, and he understood saying that that V8 club only had 12 people compete last year, and then 35 this year... so he understands the growth factor!

Now they only have a single measure dB meter, not a side by side dual meter like u see at autosalon. Which is ok because i doubt we will have that many people do this. He just gave me a few dates to avoid with him, and suggested that we organise a date and a venue, and then talk to him (in person i think) about more details.

BUt generally he is very receptive, and willing to come along and support a dB event with us! what a guru.

Im sure KARL, NINO and MYSELF can come together and get something rolling. In regards to doran pro, i only talked about the fact that once a month they have a DB day, not about the fact that they provide shit service and that all their products look stolen or reposessed. I have bad experiance with there service and products.
I will get the boys together and have a chat and we will work some thing out and get back to the SECO and EL PRESIDANTE.

Just out of curiosity, should I even bother getting involved with my system (I am interested to know what dB it can push).

Orion XTR500.4 amp
Phoenix Gold DVC 10" subs (2)
Boston Acoustic 6" splits.
The shittiest head unit ever known..... Akai thing, runs on coal.

Bundled into an AE86 so there is more rattling and vibrating than bass Smile

HEYA AE82, it sounds like you have some nice equipment running in your car, it just looks like the head unit is letting you down. I would love it if you would become involved, cause the more the merrya.
If you were interested in coming up to sydney one weekend, im sure we could organise some sort of accomodation.
we still have to finalise some details, we are meeting tonight to discuss the event and is running so i will post some ideas and get some more ideas from all the modders.

Thankyou NINO & KARL for coming over and helping me with some ideas and stuff, we had a good time and actually got some where with the ideas.
I will be approaching two companys next week to see if they are interested and have the equipment and the space to accomodate this sort of event, we also need to ensure wheather we are insured buy the clubs insurance for such an event,
we have though up some competing catogries and are still working on rules and condtions.
the classes are as follow;

ENTRY CLASS: 1 sub, 1 amp, 1000watt or below.
MIDDLE CLASS: 2 sub, 1 amp unlimited power.
TOP CLASS: X sub, X amp unlimited power.

If you have any suggestions please reply to me or contact me on 0413461518 (JUSTIN)
Any form of input on a venue or a company/person that may be able to assist, would be fantastic.

Hmmm... What do you reckon witzo... I wonder if the bottom class would be OK with 1000WRMS... Grab an Orion Class D sucker and get one of the Total Recoil 4VC subbies and run that baby at a quarter of an ohm...
Alternatively we could just go stupid and get as many of the 2x150's and 15" DBL mags as possible...

thats like 1000W leb power dude... 1000wrms is just too big for an entry class man!

oh, and i hadnt thought of really skimping out on the space consumption in the POS dude... nothing but 4x cs2350 and 2x AA0434.... 15" Dual mags and 4x100Wrms amps!!

the friggin carbons are enough!
