What does 'ps' mean? Wed, 11 May 2005 10:46 Go to next message
Hey all,

In just finished watching an Option Video of a round of the D1. All of the car's power figures are in 'ps'. What does this mean?
How many kW to a ps?

Cheers,

DP

i think ps is the same as hp?

so in that case, 1 hp = 1 ps = 0.746 kw

and 1.34 hp = 1.34ps = 1 kw

this is of course relying on the first line...

oh yeah you lazy bitch, use google.

5 seconds of typing "ps to hp conversion" and clicking on the first page that shows up gives the answer.

actually:
1 ps = 0.986 hp

so 1 ps = 0.736 kw

and 1.32 ps = 1 kw

and yeah, GOOGLE!!! IT WORKS!!!

wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong
you're all wrong. bloody noobs.

ps is the abbreviation for "Pferdestarke", a german term which is defined as 75 kgf*m/s, or about 735 W. It is 'metric horsepower'.

A pferdestarke is almost the same as a horsepower. 115 ps = 113.4 hp

Although often the english translation is usually listed as power stroke, as opposed to metric horsepower...or horse-strong Razz

Meh, I can pronounce it, I'm just saying that it is featured so many times as that that it tends to be used as the english equivalent. People like things that actually match abbreviations Razz

I wonder what babelfish or another jinglish translator would give it.
Maybe, Power Star, or something else similarly nonsensical and gay.

Orange-Dragon out.
