I Just Bought A SW20..

..and realised i know very little about them. did search, but couldnt find a great deal on what info i wanted to know.
i bought the 97 australian delivered bathurst edition MR2.
im assuming this is a Gen III 3S-GE (I checked the engine and it was definitely a 3SGE in TOP NICK!)
what gearbox model is this? it is a 5sp manual thats all i know..
whats the wheel offset? i know its 5x114.3 but what offset?
what should i be watching out for on it?
what are some good streetable coilovers for it?

Jap spec is also 5x114.3 if I'm not mistaken. Although some GT4's are 5x100, all the SW20 MR2's should have the bigger PCD. I could be wrong.

I just remember that one of the MR2 cuts we got in had the same pcd as the 205 GT4 which is 5x100

hmm if it really is 5 x 100 it means i can keep my Volks from my Supra if thats the case..

To be honest Shane, I think you must be remembering incorrectly. They wouldn't make some one offs, and after a quick search I've come up with oodles of pages with 5x114.3

I remember correcty. It could of had an upgrade at some stage cause the brakes were gone, but I know they were the same. Unless the hubs on the GT4 had been changed. But the person who bought them never complained. Meh, who cares.

Not 100% sure, my gen 2 had an S54, u can check the model on the build plate in the front

There are a few offsets that work well, depending on what size/width the wheels are, the stock wheels are a 45 offset if that's what u are after

Nothing really any different from any other car, just make sure it is all in good order, although something to look for is leaking t-top seals

Depends how much u wanna spend and what u call streetable!

Congrats on the buy mate, they are great cars to own. Things to look out for, leaky T-Tops as Senor 2 said, but you won't notice that till it really buckets down. Things to watch out for is backing off the throttle in corners in the wet, bad bad idea.

yeah im stoked with it.. i just need to raise a crudload of cash quickly to pay my insurance premium for it and then i can pick it up.. it felt so nice and responsive. i was impressed with how quickly it revved.. like it was very throaty and was beckoning me to push her (even though i couldnt really with the caryard guy next to me..)
okay so wheels shouldnt be an issue for this then.. 5x114.3 and about 45 offset is pretty commonplace.. cool.
coilovers. not till i sell the supra.. but id be probably looking something very comfortable and streetable.. the cusco's have now are a little too stiff. id be wanting something a little softer..
