1JZ crank pulley bolt Wed, 02 November 2005 05:28 Go to next message
Water pump on the 1JZ has died a sad death, I've got a new one sitting here, and all was fine, so I thought. However, I need to get the crank pulley/balancer off, and it's proving to be a bit of a mongrel. I managed to get the bolt out of another 1JZ sitting on the floor with enough patience and the rattlegun, but the engine in the car is not being so kind. The rattlegun will not touch it, freezing the bolt didn't help, breaker cars etc. are a bit difficult because holding the engine still (it's auto) is hard. I even tried that horrible old trick of spanner on the front and start the engine, and the starter motor didn't take too well to it!

Ideas, please, people!

I've had to deal with this twice having smashed both of my harmonic balancers On my JZA70 and JZZ21. What sort of rattle gun is it? If it's a cheap shitty one, you will need another, even if you borrow one. Even try a 3/4 drive one if it is that bad... But in short alot of persistance is the key....

Had a hell of a time getting the crank pulley bolt loose on my JZZ30 motor, tried a little machine oil around the head of the bolt and crank pulley, left it to soak while I had a beer, come back with a breaker bar, came of nice and easy, didn't even need any great force either.

Apparently the WD40 and freezing did some good - the old bloke came and had a go after I left for the afternoon, and managed to get it free.

I was going to go and see if I could borrow a big fat rattle gun in the morning - mine's a reasonable quality ½" one, which is obviously always going to be limited.

i faced the same deal bout a month ago

only thing to get it lose was to heat it up with the oxy put it up on a hoist, jam a bar through the flex plate and have 2 guys on a 1metre breaker bar with another metre extension...

apparently it made a huge bang when it let go, the car was actually lifting off the hoist Wink
