TrueTrak Diff Centre Group Buy (F series Diffs) Mon, 22 March 2004 05:16 Go to next message
All,
just casting around to see if anyone else is interested in a TrueTrak LSD Centre.
The merits of these centres have been discussed in other posts in this forum and on others (and I'm sure Norbie can vouch for
his).

The specifics of this group buy are:
- suitable for F series diffs (eg found in MA61 supra).
- part number TT911A342
- expected cost landed in Perth approximately AU$520 (final price depends on how many people we get, freight, exchange rate and may well be lower than this)
- you arrange installation (you will need different diff carrier bearings)

There are already 3 of us confirmed in Perth.
The rules for participating are:
- 50% deposit must be received before we order
- expressions of interest close at the end of this week (26 March 2004 - I have stuffed around for long enough, time to just get on & do it)

Obviously, if you are in Perth you can come & pick the centre up once it arrives. If you are in the eastern states there will be an extra freight charge (+ maybe repacking?) - I'm guessing this may be in the order of $60 or so.

Regards

Peter

G'Day Peter,

Well done and good onya for organising this! Just to clarify (and refresh my memory), that price is WITHOUT bearings - though you have sourced them very cheaply from a bearing specialist. Is that right?

Secondly, it sounds like you're offering to be the Ordering Man (ie using that credit card Pay Pall thing which I couldn't figure out). If that's the case, I'd assume you'd prefer cash (as opposed to cheque or credit cards) and a 100% deposit?

Anyways, I'm in! Will probably try to hook up with you next weekend to lay some money on you!

Again: onya!

How is the driveability of these things.....im starting to get some diff lash when backing off, are they just alot smoother than the standard F series? (without the clutch pack issue as well)

No more clunks when engaging gears?

Diff lash is caused by a worn crownwheel and pinion (or pinion preload not set correctly), and the TrueTrac is the diff centre only so it will have no effect on diff lash. I got my whole diff rebuilt when I put the TrueTrac in so it's nice and smooth now, no bangs or clunks at all.

Correct - that price is without carrier bearings.
If my research is correct they will only be another $25 per side.
Norbie is right - you should rebuild the diff whist putting in the new centre, so either:
- budget in some more $ to pay someone for installing/rebuilding; or
- find a mate with an inch-pound torque wrench, do a bit of reading and rebuild it yourself.

Cheers

If the EOI's close at the end of this week, when is the first 50% due, and when will the second 50% be due ?

I'm pretty interested, but the finances are hurting at the moment, so I'll see what I can work out.

Any ideas on what the landed price (incl duties & customs etc) would be ?

I'm in Adelaide, so I would be up for the extra shipping as well.

What is the expected arrival time in Aus ?

Cheers

Yep, I'm one of the three confirmed!

I'd propose for those of you interested in other states, a singular postal address in each state, but still with a single money man (Peter/82MKII). This way payment, shipping, duties, ..., can be handled centrally, but you may be able to save some postage costs, by having the units delivered straight from the USA to 2-3 different addresses in Australia. I haven't flown this past anyone, so feel free to make commment on it?!

Bbaacchhyy,
a) I'd want to know the first 50% is on it's way before I order, so probably need to see it by the end of next week.
b) the price in my original post (AU$520) is approximately what I would expect including duty
c) expected arrival time would be as high as 10 - 16 weeks after the order (that's the cheapest way to ship it).

Coronamark2,
if you have an independent rear end with an F series diff I believe it will fit. I can't say I know much about Coronas, anyone else?

Bbaacchhyy,
yes, remaining money is due when the diffs arrive.

Toy77,
I'm getting them from http://www.drivetrainspecialists.com. If you know the part number you want I don't see why we can't add that to the order. Remember there will be an extra freight change to get it from Perth to Newcastle.

TheStitt,
yes they are a torsen LSD centre.

Simple. My VISA card bill Embarassed

But then again, I always find a bargain hard to resist.....

The other thing though, my diff is still OK, but may not last much longer once all the mods are done ....

{Edit} Last question, how firm is the price ? I am presuming that it wont suddenly be 20% higher for an unknown reason...? Not doubting or anything, but never having met, am a liitle cautious. Will the final price be confirmed prior to sending the first 50% ?

Cheers

Re: TrueTrak Diff Centre Group Buy (F series Diffs) Fri, 26 March 2004 00:37 Go to previous messageGo to next message
Michael,
no worries - I hope I have everything covered in the price.
The way I got to the AU$520 unit price was:
Diff - US$291 (this was based on an order for only two, so hopefully will go down)
Postage - US$70 each - if we end up with 4 or 5 I would be able to airfreight them for this (but won't to keep costs down)- so this is hopefully a very generous estimate
Duty - US$29 - assuming customs want their 10%.
This totals US$390 = AU$520 based on 0.75 exchange rate.
So I'm hoping that the price will end up going down rather than up.
What I want is $260 up front, then once they arrive (& I know what it all actually cost to get to my front door), I'll figure out what remains to be paid (hopefully less than $260).

The only extra cost for you will be postage to Adelaide (I'm guessing $60).

Hope that helps.

Joel,
if you want one also:
a) say you are confirmed by the end of today (already done)
b) send me the $260 before I order (preferably before the end of next week)

JCMF,
thanks for the support. Hey - how's that workshop space going? Empty yet? Laughing

i secodn that.. customs LOVE to get the extra 15% duty that comes from AUTO PARTS... and then 10% GST is paid on the goods, DUTY AND POSTAGE... they suck!!!

AND if your package is worth more than AUD$1000 (postage included) then you have to do a formal customs declaration.... not exactly sure what is involved with this apart from maybe $50 customs charge, and possible broker involvement....

i hate cutoms duty, but i hate GST more!!! Mad

Guys,

was speaking to Peter today, and we're just rying to work out freight costs at the moment - trying to get the best deal. If anyone has contacts or relatives in Michigan, USA, particularly Detroit, let us know?!!!

Hmmmm, seems that there is some more time left of this Group Buy than there was originally, so I am still interested, so please add me on as a definite possibility when you start finalising numbers.

Sorry about the stuffing around , a bit of shift work loading may help me to pay for it ... Very Happy

Cheers

Michael B

I've been toying with the idea of another group buy for these centres, as I want another one. Please direct your interest to me via PM, and I'll look into it, as this really is a dead thread now.
