Where to fit surge tank

I'm cleaning up my engine bay ready for the new engine and I want to get all the fuel lines in in the naxt few days.
for those of you who have owned an ra28 or similar where can you mount a surge tank without cluttering up the engine bay,
Is it possible to fit it between the inner and outer front guards??
Or in a build out in the rear
What are the legalities about a surge tank in the engine bay??
