I am going to pull my head off my 22r which is in my 1990 4Runner (hilux).whats it roughly cost to port the head in them things nowdays?.do i need to get intake manifold ported at same time to get real benifits from porting?bigger valves?.Cams?,Well load me up with the reqired info on cams for these babys.I have decided to add a supercharger to this baby when time/money/misses permits it.I Wont consider turbo'ing as it wont suit my application as much as a blower will.
Thanx in advance ,you guys are legends

Hi.
All your questions will be answered on the Old Celica Club mailing list @ www.celicas.org. Subscribe and ask away!
Lotsa guys who mod 2x@s, many have ported & cammed, a few have turboed and I know a guy who is SCing his.
FWIW I'm eventually getting a reco'd head w/ +1mm OS valves, a stage 2 cam, supra AFM & 210cc injectors to suit. Will have to get it ported too.

There's no way I'm putting something out of a commodoer in my celica!!!
Not interested in a heavier engine or one that shifts the weight forward. I'd do the 1g thang but no way I can afford to.

I had a 90 4Runner with 2.4l, carby 22R for a few years, it was a real nice car to drive apart from the stock motor that was gutless and actually caused a an few expensive repairs.
This model is crying out for a decent motor, and I would've had fitted a 1JZ if I had known about them. Would probably still have the machine. Next best would be a S/C and EFI conversion on the 22R, but with the *1JZ transplant*, it would be an incredible machine!!!

No offense, but what have you got against a turbo that doesn't apply to a supercharger?

a couple of things that im not a fan about turbos,
1. the need time to spool up,hard to do when 4WDing
2. the heat generated by them.
3. If i had to do a water crossing they could crack
4. My misses sure as shit Aint gunna let it warm up and cool down as needed(the main reason) as it is her car
With a blower you have instant response and it comes from wayyyyyyy down low without needing to wind it up and less heat
For my application a turbo wont suit me ,for road racing id put 2 on tomorrow and enjoy the ride/slide
Im starting to lean to a V6 c'dore engine again.how do you reckon they'd cope the water condidering the dont have a dizzy?
Cheers
