Poor Soarer was in a fight tonight and came off worse for wear

I have some bad bad news. My car just got into a fight with an on coming kangaroo at 125km/h
It didn't like it very much. I was driving home from my parents place at well above the speed limit with one of the other teachers from my school in with me and I saw 3 roos bouncing along so I lifted off the pedal when the teacher screemed and one decided to come out onto the road...the biggest one. I jamed on the brakes and then swerved and just clipped it. It went flying onto the side of the road and kicked around a bit in the dust. All the bumper is pushed in (not too much surprisingly) and the little lights in the middle (high beam)...one of them is pushed in even further and a bit wonky. The front has some guts and stuff on it and I washed that off and it's all scratched to the shitter. My numberplate is almost ripped off too. I am really surprised by how big it was...how fast I was going and how hard it hit that it only did the little damage it did. Another teacher at the school has an old XF Falcon and I thought they were "built" cars and she hit one at 65km/h and it looked nasty. Lots of panel damage and had to be repaired.
I really do need a new car. Maybe a Landcruiser ute. Fit in with the rest of the town. ha ha
Goodnight all
Ohhhhhh i'm so pissed off!!
Just really made my night!
Anyway I just thought i'll let you know about my misshap and i'm off to bed now.
Goodnight

Look at it this way man..... at least your alright!!!
I was a passanger in a XT coupe (aka the Subaru Vortex) that hit a medium sized roo at about 75 km/h and I swear if I hadn't leaned forward as I saw it happening and push with both hands on the windscreen I would have ended up with it in my lap!!
Ended up with a few lil cuts and shit on my hands an a very sad looking coupe!

I hit just the tail of a roo at about 80 one night going home broke the grill rhs light parking lights pushed the fender about 2 cm back which dinged the drivers door, and that was just the tail. I now have aircraft landing lights which i retro-fitted on my celica so i can see the little shits coming.

I pulled up straight away and there was heaps of dust coming up from where I hit him just off the road. He must have been injured but I wasn't going anywhere near him because I've heard of people going back to see if they are ok and getting ripped into little pieces. I didn't want that.
I've heard wombats are 110% muscle. They make big damage but roos are fairly heavy too. This guy was about 5 feet tall and I just can't believe I got away with only the little damage I got. I need a new numberplate though. This one is really bad or it needs to meet the hammer. I found another big mark near the right hand light in the sunlight today but next time i hit a roo I know I want to be in a Soarer...they are as good as tanks!!
Well maybe not

Does anyone know much about those shoo roo things? The cheapies that go in the grill and don't have any electricity running to them. They are about $7 at Supercheap etc. I am going to give them a go no matter what but am keen to hear if they actually work or not.

Biggest killer at night in south africa is girraffe's believe it or not......
when youre driving along the lights arent tall enough to see the body and the legs are narrow and black so you dont see them
the main problem is when you hit them they fall on top of the car crushing the roof down

Ill remember that next time Im hooking round the backroads between Johannesburg and Pretoria.
but seriously we've got it pretty good here, sure a wombat can rip out a small diff and roo's can do some nasty damage but can you imagine running flat strap into a rhino

LOL.. ok.. this got a little strange..
as to those animal warning things.. you can't hear em.. but they can! and they do work too.. but make sure they got air around them.. nothing inclosed close up.. or they dont work as well.
a very good buy.. might save you from the roo next time.
Peace

If you live in Roo territory I strongly advise those little roo whistles. They were a mandatory item for the 24Hr race at Bathurst last year and proved succesfull.

Yeah where I live there are millions of roos. I travel 100k's every friday afternoon home and then back again Sunday evening. 1/2 the trip is safe and the next 1/2 is packed. And with daylight savings it's impossible to make it in daylight. I've heard that even bugs can get in the nozzle of the whistle and make them not work. I don't really want to get one of those expensive electronic Western Star things on the front because there isn't much room for them and they might block air getting into the frontmount.

I'm scared of the possibility of hitting a kangaroo, but I'm terrified of hitting a wombat!
They're dark brown and low to the ground. I doubt you'd be able to avoid it by the time you see it at night. And the bastards are built like brick walls!
Anyone got more information about this Shoo Roo?

I don't think you have to worry about roos in Sydney
Unless you are American and think that roos are EVERYWHERE. I can't believe they think they will be everywhere still!!

I drive from Sydney to Canberra and back once a week. At night.
So twice a week I spend 2.5 hours watching for roos/wombats/foxes instead of concentrating on the road and/or the ridiculously low speed limit.

Oh I see. Yeah wildlife is great. I love nature but it can be a pain on the highways. Overseas do they just hit animals like we do in OZ or do they have methods of combating it? i.e. fences, shoo roo type things near roads?
Looking around town it looks asthough every 2nd car has roo damage. I don't want to do that to mine.
I have been seriously considering selling mine and getting one of those RVR 4WD's. They look great and have a fair bit of get up and go. And the 4WD idea seems good. Are these stable at speed? Are they just a jacked up, powered up Nimbus?

The animal whistles work well.. just stick em on your car.. set you back about $7-12 each.. i think.. mebbe you get 2.. i cant remember now..
but they work on more than roos.. they work on dogs, cats, birds, wombats,...turtles... erm.. and other stuff.
Good Buy... check out a local Auto One... or any other car accessories shop.
Peace

there are shitloads of roos near my place
but they dont come up on the road very often
i've only seen it happen once and it was about 3 in the morning
they seems to like hanging out at the memorial park(like a cemetary but only plaques and no graves)

It's hard enough driving around my place in the day time because the road it littered with dead ones from the nights before. Noghts here are just deadly.
I would go past about 2-300 dead roos on the way home...very smelly through the air vents
