Just installed Walbro 550HP fuel pump Sun, 25 May 2003 04:37 Go to previous message
Just put my new 550HP fuel pump in. Cost $288 incl GST(Trade Price) from Petroject in North Parramatta.

The pump states on the outside its GSS294 but I couldn't find any specs on this particular pump anywhere on the net.

There are apparently two types of Walbro pumps in the 255L/Hour range. A high and low pressure, both for EFI but the higher pressure one delivers higher fuel volumes at high pressure which is what I need as i'll be cranking up the fuel pressure to squeeze more out of the injectors. Probably somewhere around 75psi.

Star Performance sell them for $300 and rate them at 500HP and they are identical pumps.

It doesn't take much to modify the standard intake bracket to fit. Just grind out the bottom holder of the standard bracket to fit the new pump which is alot smaller than the factory pump which was still providing enough fuel for 300rwhp.
Then cut and solder the wires, put a stainless hose clamp to ensure the pump stays on the bracket and fit the strainer/filter onto the bottom and your done.

The Walbro pump is noisy compared to the stock one when you turn the ignition on and whilst sitting at the lights idling. As soon as you push the pedal the noise dissapears. The pump is probably supplying too much fuel at idle and that's why she's noisy.

I also noticed an increase in fuel pressure(@ idle) to 43psi over 38psi previous which i'll have to dial back down to 38psi with the Malpassi regulator.

This fact proves the new pump is supplying more fuel already as the increase in pressure without any other mods shows.

Apart from the slight increase in noise i'm reasonably happy, i'll see how she flows on the dyno. Smile
