Widest wheel on a TA22 Tue, 17 June 2003 06:40 Go to next message
Whats the widest possible wheels you can have on the back of a 22 with rolled lips, but without tubs or pumping the guards?
Anyone know?

I comfortably ran 235/50 13"s on a lte model TA22 (ie the bigger rear lip and Guard lip. Guards were well lipped tho and the rims were made for the car.

235's Shocked Sweet. But unfortunately I'll be needing wheels bigger than inches Sad

careful, wider wheels may not be necessarily putting more rubber onto the road, there are a few articles around that explains all of this, also a passage in 21st century performance (book) if i remember correctly...

was too long ago that i read this to have any ability to explain...

i fitted a 225 on a supra mag on the BACK of a early model 225 with about 5mm of clearance - fronts wouldnt fit

id personally stick woth something around the 215 mark - for price and availability ( and space )

I would like to be using 225's on the back of mine, and 205's on the front.
But this comes down to what will fit with 16's or 17's.

205's on the front aren't a problem; that's what I have on my RA23 and it's all good even with a much smaller steering wheel. I might add that the power steering is disabled on my MA61 and even with 225 tyres I still manage. Smile

Freak shane i think you should go with 155's on the front and 175's on the rear, that'll be the only way you'll be able to get em to spin.....

I'm running 195/50/15s on my 74 and its plenty. I have an adjustable 4 inch drop on the front end and when I put it right down the front rubber kisses the fenders. No good. I could fit more on the back if I was running typical Supra 14s but I snatched these 15s off a 1985 American car (didn't offer 15s on Canadian cars...don't know about in your neck of the woods). Anyway the 15s are really flat so nothing sticks our beyond the fender, unlike the 14s that are recessed at least 2 inches.

Its all about the rims.

Re: My car Thu, 19 June 2003 09:36 Go to previous messageGo to next message
The blue TA22 above is mine. The wheels are 16 x 8" Simmons F90 with 225/45x16 on the rear. The fronts are 205/45x16. The rims are still for sale since I've now bought 17s. I'm putting 215/40x17 all round since there are no 225x17 in 40 profile (only 45) and 235/40x17s are too big...

Anyone interested in making an offer on the 16s???

PS They're very old pics, the car's still not on the road but has had a lot more done to it. Should get new pics within a few weeks.
