It's coming along, but is proving more difficult than what we first thought.
Looks like we'll have to use a twin master cylinder pedal box for the brakes and get rid of the vacuum booster completely, as it's hitting the inlet manifold pretty hard. As I mentioned in the other thread, the rear of the sump has been modified by grinding a lot of it away to clear the steering rack, also letting the engine sit lower in the engine bay. We are also looking at using spacers between the crossmember and chassis rails to get a bit more room.
The radiator will have to be custom made, and it'll sit in front of the radiator support panel as there's not enough room between where the engine would normally sit and have a pair of thermo-fans.
It's likely that we'll transfer the entire Altezza wiring loom behind the dashboard & use the Altezza's climate control air-con system, etc. Bit of a job to make it all fit, but it'll be better I reckon.
There's other fiddly little things, but it's happening bit by bit.
Some more info & a few more pics here - http://www.billzilla.org/AE86page2.htm.
Guess I'll break the news, too - It's also going to use the 5-speed 'tiptronic' style automatic gearbox that came behind the engine! Yep, it'll be a slushbox. I figure since the car weighs a full 400kgs less than the Altezza it replaces, it'll still go quite well enough.
Anyway, the Starlet is going to be the really fast car and so get all the good bits.
We're also looking at fitting the Altezza's ABS brake gadget, though this may well not happen.
