Course it can be done - maybe an Altezza 3SGE would be a better idea though in some ways?

ahh, doesn't the S2000 motor spin the other way to toyotas??
you'd need not only engine, but gearbox and diff as well.... pretty much a whole S2000 to transfer over... maybe find one that's been wrapped banana-like around a pole Wink
the S2000 motor doesn't make significantly more torque than other engines, just makes it in the 7-9000 rpm range rather than 4-6000rpm....
could be a fun project if you had the cash or a spare S2000 Very Happy

And if you lived in Japan, you could easily buy one off the Yahoo auctions:

The F20C spins the same way as "normal" It's the first of the new generation Honda engines to do so.

oh wow! they do spin normal.. i bet that was just to stop all the fooly sik integra type R (but really not) boys from putting S2000 motors in their civics Smile i wonder why they went back to normal direction?? weird... something to do with the different dynamics of having a transverse vs longitudinal motor??

ummm, probably the same as it puts out in an S2000?

stock, the F20C is pretty much on the limit of it's performance, and has pretty high VE (at least high in the rpm range) so there is prolly not that much more to get from it.. and turboing it would defeat the purpose of the extensive NA tuning....

but on the other hand, (and from the torque thread, heh heh Wink ) i'd rather be making my peak torque at 9000rpm than at 4000rpm.. stay in gears longer and make use of the gearing advantage..

if you can get the parts for a reasonable price, give it a bash!!... or would it fit in a KE1X corolla??? hmmmm

I read that it cost them more to do the conversion than it was to buy a new s2000! Shocked
All of the new Honda engines now spin in the normal direction regardless of it being mounted north-south or east-west.

The S2000 motor spins in the normal direction , I fitted a Vortex supercharger kit to an S2000 about 12 months ago , Running 9psi it made 200 RWKW but is not my sort of car to drive around town as It was very normal till about 5500 rpm then started pulling then when it hits about 7000 rpm it gets going pretty hard up to 9000 rpm , but for city driving it has no more pull than a 4AGE , I have a 3SGTE in my TA22 and it has heaps more low down pull than the S2000 and a hell of a lot more mid and high range power ( 260 RWKW ) So go 3SGTE !!! And it's a TOYOTA MOTOR !!!!!

Dude I don't know where the hell you are comming from with that statement!!

Would you not rather have the max amount of pulling power down low and relatively flat until redline so as to be able to get good acceleration from even down low in the rev range??

Shit If I had to wait until 9k rpm for max torque I would want that sucker of an engine to be spinning to at least 15k rpm!!

Or am I missing the point or something???

Anyone else see a problem with the above statement??

Best Motoring do actually do a roadtest on an AE86 with full s2000 running gear. (you can see it on volume four of the international series, part of the "Hot Version" section)

It's a real neat conversion, but Hattori sums it up by nearly crying laughing when he finds out what it cost, way more than a really tough r34GTR.....

I'm with Trev. Even a Beams 3sge.

welll. if you have a smallish engine (like 2L and under) and you have peak torque at 4000rpm, do you think you will have a flat torque curve to 9000rpm?? probably not.

what i should have said is that i'd rather have a 2-3000rpm range of peak torque from about 6500-8500, rather than 4000-6000, but i didn't really want to be that specific..

i was more referring to having a 'normal' motor that peaks early then dies off, compared to a more cammed motor, which peaks later.

if you habe the same torque at double the revs, gear it down half, etc etc...

also response will be much better at high revs than at low revs.. so......

i woulnd't want to have to drive to melbourne with it, but around sydney, i'd much rather have a high revving motor than a low rev grunter (and hey.. i do Smile)

and staying in gear longer?? i can't count the number of times i've caned bigger cars thru first and second, as i go up to about 7500-8000rpm... while 'newer' cars seem to change around 5-6000.....

gimme a pm and we can go for a drive Smile
Cya, Stewart

oh, and then again, just having been taken for a drive in a boxster S.. they look dainty but they have a whole lot of torque... and the 6spd lets you use it (and redline is around 7krpm..) but the german motors always seem to have a much flatter torque curve than japanese designed ones....
