have i blown a piston/headgasket? - fixed with pics! Thu, 17 July 2003 12:29 Go to previous message
Hi all, well got in a race today with a SS commodore ute.. At 20psi, 6000rpm and around 180km/h the engine started pinging really badly.

Couldn't let the commodore win so had to keep on it until he was a small speck in the rear view mirror.

By that time engine felt like it was running on 3 cylinders, smoke everywhere out of the engine bay and what sounded like a huge exhaust leak..

When I got it home had a quick look...

The crank trigger disc had slipped around 60 degrees advanced.

Heater hose had blown off the engine (pulled the hose clamp off with it)

Coolant welch plug on the passenger side of the engine has come out.

Thats out it for now.. So I assume the what I thought was exhaust leak was the welch plug maybe? Hmm not sure what it sounds like with a big hole in the side of the block.

Smoke was burning coolant..

So whats everyone think? Serious, or maybe just lucky and put another welch plug back in, adjust trigger disc (thing keeps slipping), heater hose back on and keep fingers crossed?

Oh nNo water in the oil and I have forged pistons.

Cheers
Joel
