DESPERATE: thermostat for 4agze in ae86

im desperate guys! some time ago i asked about using a thermostat in my sprinter with gze when i dont have the original housing. someone said i cant remember who that you can mount the thermostat in the bottom hose, and sure enough cause i saw a corolla with a gze and the thermostat in the bottom hose.
so what ive done is get soem different bits of housing and mounted the thermostat in the bottom hose. the problem is, the engine overheats and the thermostat doesnt open! now, theres NO air in the system im sure, its a brand new thermostat and it works cause ive tested it (ive even bought a second one to be sure), and the housing does not touch then thermostat and block it from opening.
the thing is, the bottom hose is cold BOTH sides of the thermostat! how does that happen when there is DEFINATELY no air in the system? theres no blockage in the system as it flows fine without the thermostat the engine just wont warm up. ive got a brand new water pump and had the radiator cleaned and tested ok.
sorry for the long post but i really need help cause once this is sorted i can have my computer tuned and my car finished and finally go on a cruise with toymods
