Long Highway Drives are good!

Having spent a week doing a return trip from Sydney to Bryon Bay, the engine has certainly clean itself out. I only noticed it when I was driving familar roads again. I was amazed the car felt strong with a fuel tank of petrol, one passenger and luggage.
I just wonder how long it will be before it chokes up again with this city driving.

Did you remove the parkers? I think that helps a lot at low altitudes.

Iggy - What sort of fuel economy were you getting on the highway trip? Have you found your "around town" economy to be any better since you blew the cobwebs out?

Paul,
It was silly of me, but I never bothered calculating fuel economy until this recent trip. At best highway was 12, averaging 11.5. In the city it is 8.8ltrs. My book quotes 12 and 10 for a stock Camry.
The only thing I can say is that the power has definately returned to the car. It hasn't felt this way since I put on the extractors/exhaust back in 1999.

I didn't bother with the park light as I want to see how the ram air would perform. It definately sucks things up, I found a piece of bark in the air box at Port Maquaire.
The cardboard pre heater ducting started to wear out at Coffs Harbour. Then at a stupid attempted at driving at unsealed road after it rain the bellmouth and front air dam went crunch! So I had to perform an amputation in Bryon.
Now that the left side of the front air dam is looking a bit sorry, I'm going to cut a rectangle section out to install a brake duct and race grill to feed into the airbox as a more permanent feature. Will also source thick plastic ducting with reinforced metal wire instead of pre heater ducting.

Think of it this way, now you can put on the pre series 3 SV21 front air dam and also have a front spoiler off the V6 Camry on it.

No that is 12Km/L as quoted in my manual.
I suppose you can calculate that back to ltr per 100km
