Howdy
I was fortunate enough to aqquire an IHI RHB6 turbocharger today and all associated bits from a generous car-nut..
its fairly old but i have been told by the previous owner it was in perfect order when removed from engine around 6 months ago, but has just been sitting in a box under a huge heap of MK1 escort parts collecting dust.
Apparently it's from a toyota engine around 2 litres .. but maybe a commercial van/ute of some sort?? I dont think its off a deisel tho. I am considering it as the basis for my next future upgrade for the 18Rgeu down the track as otherwise i'd have bought a series5 hitachi, but ive got this one now so why not at least find out if it has any potential..
What i need is any info at all about this turbo, is anyone familiar with it?? I thought someone may have seen/worked on these before?
What i know already: its relatively small, bout the same size as a Piazza Turbo if not larger. It is oil cooled/lubed only. small/tiny internal wastegate .
-The numbers on the side of the compressor housing are:
Turbo. Spec. '?P16L436BZ2'
Serial No. RHB6'054064
-on the centre shaft housing wall:
'RHB6'
'05 A8'
-on the exhaust housing:
'51'
'PZ'
'18-R' <------ This amazed me when i noticed!
Has this got anything to do with my 18-R motor? probably not im guessing..
I took the compressor-side cover off and it is really clean and looks to be in okay condition, the wheel still turns quite freely with no shaft play i could really notice...
What is this turbo from? i want to find out more details/specs.
Would this be at all suitable for a 4-cyl 18RGe motor, or would it be pretty pissweak and not worth spending hours making the manifold for?
Would this turbo be worth getting checked out by a professional/rebuilt?
How much are these units worth?
My mate at Cat can take it to get cleaned up sometime when he remembers, and maybe one of the deisel tech dudes will know something..
Thanks heaps to all and anyone who has any info on this.. I can see myself getting some use out of this thing one day..
