engine problem Thu, 28 August 2003 01:31 Go to previous message
Hi,

I have had engine on my car overhauled.
They repaired and replaced head, removed and replaced conrod bearings, piston rings, timing belt, VRS kit. They also cleaned up carbon in oil pump.
The job had 20,000km warranty.
I recently had problem with the car and took it to them thinking it's a related problem covered under warranty.
Now they are saying it's a completely different problem not covered under warranty.

They replaced the head, de-carbonised all valves, because excessive carbon on no. 1 cylinder exhaust valve caused valves to not close properly.

The repair bill consisted of distributor cap, head repairs, gaskets plus labour.

Are these two problems really unrelated at all? Could my recent problem have been caused by the mechanics not doing a proper job in the first place?

My thought is that they didn't tune it properly in the first place and I told them that. They say that Honda engines use programmed fuel injection system so they can't change the setting or something like that. Is that true? somehow I can't believe that any engine cannot be tuned at all just because it uses programmed fuel injection

Thanks
