RA40 conversion possibilities

Hey. Hope someone can give me some help. I have $6000 to do an engine conversion and need some advice on engines. I cannot legally fit a 1jz-gte without going way over buget(would be ideal tho.). I know the 1g-gte fits but most of these engines are rather old and tired. I have also been told that they are not too strong. 3s-gte cannot do cause it is east-west engine. So what other options would be good. I need an engine that is turbo and has moderate potenial for upgrades.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
