I also have a 1980 (well '81) Corona (see, jag's article in general discussion) and i also am looking at getting a bit more than the stock 3kw at the wheels. (if some of you are doubting my ridiculously high power figures, please note that i had removed the airfilter for that particular dyno run )Unfortunately i got jipped with mine and have to put up with the neck-snappingly powerful Starfire motor. However for $400 with airconditioning AND REGO i wasn't really complaining if you know what i mean . But here's for crazy ideas, i have a TD04 Cordia turbo sitting in my dad's garage, and i think you know where this is going. Now i know a lot of you would be instantly going , however i have heard that this engine is extremely strong, so i was thinking, a low boost application, big frount mount 'cooler, a decompression plate, and a few 45mm webbers later, it would be atleast powerful enough to warrant putting in the extra time to actually bother tying it down onto the dyno! I might add that i already have the turbo, twin 45mm ida sidedraught webbers (prob only need 1) and a guy who'll do the manifolds and pipeing for free. (don't ask, and no, he won't do it for anyone else!) Anyway, anyone with any advice would be appreaciated.
p.s please remmember that this is my "muck-around" hill climb car and not my good car, so don't tell me to get another car, just tell me how and what else i need to do to make this damn thing go!
p.p.s I know it still won't be fast, 80kw @ the flywheel i'm hopeing for, i just want to hear that sweet sound of reverted boost pressure getting chopped up by the compressor wheel and echoing through the huge intercooler!
