I'd like opinions on the relative strength differences between these 2 diffs (apart from the extra mounting strength afforded by the Supra's 2 front mounting points - in a debate I'm having onanother forum, this would be moot anyway, as someone has mounted a MK3 diff in an MX83 carrier).

Yes, the housings look different. But, at the end of the day, as I understand it, they both share virtually identical G-series internals (ratios notwithstanding) and thus, one wouldn't be any stonger than the other...
