Please help : 5m-ge

Hi all
I'm part way through putting a 5m-ge into an '84 Cressida which originally had a 5m-e. I'm having all sorts of problems, the current one is is that the new loom won't connect the old computer.
Is it a matter of playing around with the loom to join it up - ie make a new connector, or do I need a 5m-ge computer?
Thanks
Glen

You should be able to run the 5MG on your 5ME ECU. You need to swap the sensors off your old 5ME and put them on your 5MG. Then you can run the original loom - plug in and play. Rod (club president) has just completed this delightful task. He can tell you all about the fun he had.

The other option is to chop the wires at the sensors at solder them on to the 5M-GE sensors - this is what I did when I put a 6M-GE in my MA61. Either way works, and either way is a PITA!

Thanks for all the help.
Will the car run better if it does have the 5m-ge computer? ie is it worth the cash and hassle?
Thanks again

apparently the 5MGE has a much better (more complex) engine management. so it would be best to use that, however in saying that 5ME works fine for me.
what are you all on about swapping the sensors over? I just plugged my loom up to the engine and BAM, im on the road
