Well, I am a very happy person now! Turns out my clutch didnt need preplacing or anything. Took it into Pittwater Brake and Clutch specialists and they had a look at it, fixed the problem and phoned back to say they had fixed it. All within 6 hours. What is even better is that it cost me a big fat $0.

Thanks guys!
Very Happy Very Happy

The master cylinder had some adjustment thing? I don't know.. my car doesn't..

anyway, it was keeping pressure in the hydraulic system and keeping pressure on the clutch, so it was as if the clutch pedal was partially depressed all the time Sad

So it was a problem with the hydraulics? What a surprise!

so what is it about adjustment of master cylinders ?????

I am having some issues with my new clutch, and i think it is adjustment related.

Basically he said that the master cylinder was "wound up" so that the clutch was half engaged the whole time. He just "wound it down" and works fine now. Cannot tell you the details sorry. He said it was like a five minute job though.

More than likely he was referring to the threaded adjustment on the master cylinder pushrod (ie the bit that goes between the clutch medal and master cylinder).

Nah, unlikely. It possibly had some minor pitting that might have gone unnoticed. Did you hone the bore before you rekitted it?

hone is an affirmative.

i did notice one of the seals was damaged on the piston, when i replace the thing tomorrow ill see if the same seal is damaged again.

Check the bore carefully. Scrap it if there is any hint of pitting (you can bore and resleeve them, but given that you can buy them new from Repco....).
When fitting the new rubber, make sure you lube it with rubber grease (or if you are a bit of a cheapskate, some brake fluid) and hopefully this will prevent the seal from being damaged on reassembly.

Mine was leaking inside the firewall a while back. I was lazy and went to repco and just whacked a new one in there... Smile

i have adjusted that thread.

Would you think for a new clutch it shoudl be wound all the way down or up ?? i wound my pedal down and it seemed better.

That in cabin threaded rod simply adjusts how much free play the clutch pedal has. There should be 1-2 cm (or whatever the manual states) of free play at the pedal before the clutch starts to disengage.
