6mge smoke....explanation?

i may have an explanation for 6mge smoke problems
a few weeks ago, i rebuilt the head, and when i started her up, she blew smoke for a good few mins. she finally stopped after i was able to take her for a drive
the other day, i replaced the front crack seal, and when i started her up, she blew smoke again, and didnt stop until i took her for a drive
now, the only this common between these two cases is that the battery was unplugged, and hence the ecu was reverted back to factory settings.
now i'm thinking, that something is different between the 5mge and 6mge that the 5mge computer doesnt like.
anybody got any ideas?
would the ISCV? valve have anything to do with this here?
either way, fitting the 5mge part should fix it?
