1. Dunno, but I haven't seen one.
2. All JZ series transmissions are interchangeable, so yes.
3. Ray Hall has put a 2JZ-GTE in an IS200 (some info here). Looks like it was relatively easy to do from a mechanical perspective, but I wouldn't want to be the poor sucker wiring it up!
4. IS300's have a 2JZ-GE from the factory, so the modification/fabrication required is zero!
5. I've been in a couple of IS200's, and they are by no means inspiring in terms of straight-line accleration. They go surprisingly well for what they are, but there's no getting around the fact it's a medium-sized sedan with a small engine.
6. Haven't been in one, but from what I've heard it's a totally different car: adequate power and stacks more torque. Some say the extra weight of the 2JZ ruins the balance of the car, but others say it's not much of a difference and the extra power more than makes up for it. I guess it comes down to the requirements/expectations of the individual in the end.

Although I gather Mr. Hall needed to do some brutal mods to the end of the V160 to make it fit - they're a bit arse box...

1) No it does not, but can be bought in Japan and the US in 5 door hatch version, 2JZ NA engine and 'tiptronic' auto only. Imports of this are being sold in NZ right now for about $35,000.
The model is called the Sports Cross or Gitz depending on the market is is sold in.
2)As per Norbie !
3) I found a story from a US car mag showing someone who had fitted a 2JZ GTE to their IS200, and from memory the problems were not of the kind that made you want to give up the idea on the spot.
4)As per Norbie again, the IS200 is a very sweet and well balanced car in the handling stakes, but the underpowered engine is its biggest let down.
5) The 300 does feel the weight of the 2JZ and it understeers more and is not so sweet to tip into corners. Having the auto box only open spoils the fun as well. Try back issues of Wheels magazine for the stories on these cars.
Just an idea I had and not likely to be original, a supercharger from a 1G-GZE might be a nice bolt on power upgrade for the 1G-FE engine standard in the IS200.
Cheers,
Mitch.

According to www.lexus.com.au, the current IS300 has an LSD as standard equipment but the IS200 does not (it's probably optional though). I'm not sure if this applies to previous models.

When we got the IS200 only, yes LSD was standard on the manuals, and the limited edition acid yellow series run. They have dropped that off the spec now to save $$$ and added it std to the 300, but yes, you would be able to order one with an LSD.
IIRC they are 4.1 ratio.
Cheers,
Mitch.

My Lexus IS200 manual has a limited slip diff. It is Toyota Code A02B which is a Torsen and is the same as fitted to Soarers I believe.
I am currently fitting a 1JZGTE VVTi with Getrag V160 to my IS200. Haven't heard anything about modifying the V160 to fit before. There are several IS200's around on the Internet with V160 boxes in them. The only mod I know of is the need to shorten the gearchange mechanism by 30mm. Fortunately that is all external on the box.
When I slot mine in I guess it will become obvious if it fits. Just waiting for my box to come back from reconditioners. It is getting the once over before fitting.

Really?? I had this Diff in my JZA80...Interesting!! So does that mean, an LSD meant for a Supra, will fit in the IS200?
My IS200 is manual, and has no LSD, and is slow as! Well, Ive had a few runs, its line ball with VT Commodores.
Im actually looking for an LSD centre, would one from a JZA80 fit???
Just for future refrence, the wagon in Japan all have the 1GFE (no 3SGE) and is called GITA not Gitz hehehe.
There have been a few people now who have fitted the 2jzgte into the IS300/200 ala Ray Hall.

How is the Altezza RS200's 3S-GE powerplant? I hear it puts out 155 kw. And I thought the RS200 was 1139 kgs?
Is the RS200 sold here? Or do we only get the AS200 (as the IS200?)? The AS200 is a V6 isn't it?

RS200 weighs the same as the IS200 or similar. IS200 is a Straight 6 (1gFE) and we didnt get the 3S RS200

Here are some weight figures i have found. The IS200 and RS200 have a considerable weight difference:
Kerb Weights
RS200 - 1360 kg
IS200 - 1435 kg
IS200 - 1483 kg
