2T-G accelerator cable setup

G'Day All,
Recently put in a 2TG with twin mikuni solex carbs and am not too
happy with my accelerator cable setup. Currently the cable comes
through a mounting plate which is attached between the carbs on the
outside. The cable goes down to the throttle arm which is between
the carbs.
The problem is that the springs on the throttle arm are quite tight
and due to the angle that the cable attaches to the throttle arm,
the first little bit of travel causes too much movement in the
throttle arm and so moving off from a standing start is a bit
difficult. Fine control at this point is difficult too.
Was wondering if anyone out there had some ideas about the best way
to do the setup?
Got pictures of your own setup? Please mail them to
whatever@connexus.net.au
Cheers,
Jeremy.

Hey Dude
I have the same setup (cept its a GEU with twin solex) in my TA23 and i have the same problem. I have been driving it with the "tight" accelerator for 2 years now.. I have gotten used to it and even like it now. Tho it is impossable to slowly rev up/down. My driving style is either foot flat, or foot off so that dousnt bother me as much.
Another thing i have found funny is watching others try to drive my car.. so funny because they either stall it a million times or over rev it and burn my clutch as i have a very short clutch engage/disengage distance.
I have been told (but never seen it done) that you can use the original mechanical accelerator setup buy turing one of the mounts on the firewall (the one closest to the bonnet latch) upside down. so if you have the parts maybe u can tinker with that.
hope it helps

Hey, i am about to put a 2TG in with the solex's, and was wondering if you got the cable new and then attached it or got it from a car with a pedal already attached?

Disco Scoob: When my cable broke, i replaced it with a cable from Repco or Sprint Auto, its just a standard cable, i think 1.2M and on one end it has a ball fused onto it. that clips onto the top of your pedal, then you bolt the other end to your carbs. you will also have to buy a housing "tube" for it. Not sure where go get that probably the same place.
A good idea that i worked out AFTER replaceing my cable is to get a "nipple clip" type thing that you can clip onto the cable houseing. so you can put grease in easly. else it will be very tight.
Good luck
