Some adj coilover strut questions

I'm currently putting together my adjustable coilover struts, and I've got a couple of questions...
First of all, bumpstops. I've noticed in photos of other adj coilover setups that none of them seem to have bumpstops. Is this usual? Why? If it's recommended to run them, where do you get bumpstops small enough to fit in the spring?
Secondly, torqueing up the top nut. Because I can't exactly hold the strut shaft still anymore, (because the upper spring seat doesn't "lock" onto the shaft like the stock one does), how do you get the correct amount of torque on it? Or do you just put a rattle gun on it and hope for the best?
