 oil leaks

well, seems my car isn't actually burning that much oil.
what it is doing is leaking it ... especially if I fill the oil all the way up.
most of it seems to be dripping down and leaking off around my gearbox, with the odd splatter on the firewall, and a bit on the back of my engine
any suggestions as to what might need to be fixed?
