okay - here goes...

im interested in making a funky Palm-Pilot based scan tool for looking at the engine and ECU parameters of my 7m (OBD, not OBD2)

i got the idea from here:

http://mmcd.meditprofi.ru/

now, that circuit is designed for a mutsubishi, however, i was thinking it would be worth a crack at trying to interface it with the toyota serial data output pin (VF). perhaps the addresses of the data are different, i dunno, i cant find any further info, but im willing to find out.

now looking at this (page 5):

http://www.autoshop101.com/forms/h47.pdf

it would seem that in order to get the serial data pin (VF) to function, one needs to bridge terminals TE2 and E1(earth). problem is, my good ol 7m doesnt seem to have TE2 (only has T, which is equiv of TE1 from what i can figure - used for error codes and setting timing etc))... yet it does still has a VF output pin.

now i cant seem to find any info on what to do to get VF to function in my setup, anyone have any ideas? this is what the diag box of my 7m looks like:

so with that in mind, anyone then have any ideas as to whether that OBD palm scan tool would work with a toyota? data addresses? any other thoughts? i have a spare palm pilot that i think would be great to use for something like this, so any ideas, fire away!

cheers
ed
