Hi im looking at getting a toyota cressida, got a decent job now need a decent car to match it
now to the pics
Engine pics
Body
Interior
Ive spend the better part of the morning searching through the forums and basically its a solid engine but a few HG problems. Which has been replaced in the top
Now for the qds I know it shares the same eng with the supra of the same age, my question is has anyone worked on any of these engines and know any of there quirks? This engine has had some major work on it, ie it had poor compression due to the head and also burnt valves. What could cause this?, but it has had 2k worth of work (have spoken to the mechanic and have seen receipt) The head has been replaced and pressure tested and valves replaced and engine has been totally checked out by mechanic i trust. Theres no compression problems, and idles/runs like a dream. BUT it has done 280k k's with the work being done at 275k. Ive looked at a few otheres and theyve all got different things wrong, ones eng sounds so sick and the others the interior is fubared. This one has the best of both worlds, but the eng has doen a lot of ks and this recent work has me a little worried.
Oh and the cost is $5k down from 5990, its from a dealer but the car is in perfect nick.
basically what should i be looking for to see if theres any residual damage from the old head and burnt valves?

man they are a great car and well manufactured if the head has been done thats a big bonus!!!!
You might whant to look for oil in (well it dripps out) dizzy cap the 7m's have a little prob with the bearing seals in the dizzy and yeah you might get the standard oil leaks
uuummmmm...... there is somthing that cracks on the rear suspention i forget what it is but i know its easily repaired with a weld...
my advice to you is this... if things start stuffing up and you look like the engine might be on the way out start saving for a JZX81 Toyota Chaser half cut
DO NOT spend the money else where i so regret replacing 2 7m's i could of put in the 1JZ and got it over and done with at the start
ps I love driving my car now i couldn't explain how great it feels

if it has done a few hundred km's and has had that amount of problem I'm guessing that they didn't change the timing belt and it fatily broke and then there was carnage, the best advise I can give you is take to for a pre-inspection by a mechanic, I think we charge the $70mark or around that. But then again we do it properly. good luck.

It all sounds so familiar... I bought mine (an '89) from a dealer who said, "It's had $2000 worth of work done to the head..." Then, when I drove it around that afternoon, it over-heated. Got it home and checked it out. Very milky-looking water (ie. head-gasket gone). I also paid $5K for mine. Like yours, everything (bar the engine) is in excellent nick and, fortunately for me, I only bought the car as I was always going to heave the 7M and plonk in a 1UZ, which arrived yesterday, incidentally.
Still, all-in-all they're a reasonable thing; much better than local "equivalents" of the time. Mind you, they'd want to be, given the price differential, but that's another story.
In short, congrats! Looks like you've bought a nice unit!

I've had my second MX83 now for 6 years. its done 225k I had Head gasket, heater core, radiator, A/C dramas with both cars but they were general maintenance related problems from the previous owners. Don't worry about engine swaps unless you want more power http://users.bigpond.net.au/reanimotion/toymods/Wh atGoesWrong.htm Basically a damn good car
