Best budget engine conversion on KE20?

Hey lads, I've got a KE20 coupe which is my "cheap runabout car" which has a 5K in it with a 5 speed and side draught weber on it.
It's not that fuel efficient and I am thinking of a cheap engine conversion.
I have been told that a 4AGE is the best motor to get.
Has anyone here done this conversion?
And has anyone else got any suggestions?
I am not looking for a race car, but a fuel efficient daily driver
If performance comes as a bonus (good performance for same or less fuel consumption in a more efficient motor) than I am happy but please dont anyone say dual side draught motors with racing cams etc
