Ok well i finally got around to go for my Green p's today and i have to say the new licensing system is a joke, ok they have the right idea in making the p's go for longer to help reduce crashes and so forth but they way they have it set up at the moment is just stupid, the HPT test to get your green p's is just a waste of time, i don't think anyone has ever failed it and its simply just pointless. after you pass the test they don't even tell you anything all they do is give you your license and tell you to grab some plates. I think the way to make better drivers on the road is to give them more training. in actually driving conditions just like you have for bikes you go and do a special course they should have the same for getting your car license and actually have someone teach them how a car handles and so forth as thats one of the big problems is people jump into a car who actually have no idea of what the physics are of an automobile and no idea how they handle and what to do when you get yourself into a slide or anything like that. they need to teach car control not just the rules. by having this new P's system its just a waste of time and the test you do to move to your green p's proves nothing as its a piece of piss to pass, perhaps the first step the RTA can do to educate young drivers more is when they get a license they sit down with you and tell you what your rules are. when i got my l's they never said i was only limited to 80km/h, when i got my P's they never said what speed i was restricted to, how many points i got and so forth and then i now moved onto my green p's and they still didn't mention anything to me about what my new rules are. so perhaps they should get off their arse and actually educate the young drivers instead of just saying "smile" and then giving you a license and a hand full of p plates. i honestly feel there should be more tought in actual car control and the rules clearly explain to you when you pick your license up. Also on the back of the Tasmanian licenses in the conditions section it says you can only do 80km/h on the back of the P license. now why can't they do a simple thing like that on our NSW licenses? as does that mean i can do 110km/h as there is nothing or anyone that has told me what the rules are and i can't remember signing a form saying i obey to such and such rules. only form i signed was to agree that my personal details are correct.
