Oil vs Water temperature

Which would you consider more useful?
Most people seem to buy a water temperature gauge, regarding an oil temperature as a bit extreme.
On the other hand, the stock cluster already has a (rather inacurate) water temp, and also the oil temperature would be a clearer indication as to how hot the engine is actually running.
The gauges appear to be about the same price, and I have the option to buy either...
Hmm...
What are your opinions?
