Quote: | Just as a footnote (pardon the pun), as I'm sure you are aware, the intermittent nature of your knee locking may be why it was missed.
A bit like the washing machine doesn't work - you call in the repair guy and he gets it to work without any probs at all.
|
thats true...when the doc at the hospital slid it back into place he took an xray immediately and couldnt find anything and my knee felt better....but whenever the specialist tried touching the back of the knee it felt like it wanted to pop out again...to be more specific theres a tight cord like thing/ligament at the back of the knee that feels like it'll pop out the minute you start to examine it
ah well

The treatment course depends on what is wrong with your knee.
An ACL injury like Rob's will score you a knee reconstruction. The main issue here is that you are 'sidelined' for about 6-12 months and need to engage in and be committed to a rigorous rehab regimen. I'm sure Rob can fill you in there (I'm not being facetious) .
Something like a simple meniscal tear or a collateral ligament injury will sideline you for much less time. Physio and exercise is still very important.

SPEEDCORE wrote on Sun, 09 November 2003 23:03 | Came In my view this is true of all health based professions, yep.... you won't see me dumping shit on doctors like "oh they make a shit load of money" like some nurses will say. When you are fucking run off your feet, work long long hours (yes say hello to +24 hr shifts in the early years), and if you choose to become a registrar (like GT), can't go out enjoy yourself without the possiblity of being called on your mobile or paged while your at a resturant with your wife, movies, gathering with friends, etc. then people realise that "yes", docs don't do it just for the money.
And to top it off, this medical indemnity BS that has/still is going on, it is surprising that there are still people still sitting their exams to get into medicine. I know it has put me off.
Sorry for my little rant, take care,
SPEEDY!
|
I also feel same way.
I am also a Registered Nurse and currently work in a fairly busy Surgical ward specialising in Vascular, Breast, endocrine & urology.
And like what speedcore said about gynae.....
Well...breast aint too glam either.

IMHO, it's not just about pay, but about career structure and general conditions (carparking, creche facilities - sorry Speedy, it's still a female dominated profession - etc), but I could be pretty mistaken.
My rotation in O&G as a student put me off sex for ages - there is nothing glamorous about fat fannies.
|
Sorry for what..... it is a fact that it is still a female dominated profession. As for the carparking and creche facilities?? No way not in QLD, might be different in SA, the majority of hospitals around brisbane you have to either pay (not tax refundable)or park a few blocks down on the street.... while it doesn't bother me to park a few blocks down, it is not surprising some of the female nursing staff don't like it when they finish on a late shift!
|
Well where i am there is no privedged spots for doctors. We all have to pay for privately owned carparks at insane rates. Its a bitch having to pay for carparking just to be at work. Parking on the street of a 5km radius is impossible as its all 30min - 1hour restricted parking, and no one wants to risk fines...

I work for Main Roads WA - the government road manager in this State and help manage a $90 million 10 year road maintenance contract.
Before all of that I started as a Uni student in Surveying and Mapping, them worked for Toyota WA for 5 years before a stint at TDG/Patricks Autocare.

Well, just to be different:
I manage the Western AUstralian SUbstance Users' Association, the sttae's peak drug user advocacy and support agency. We currently have a staff of 13 and are probably nest known for running the state's only fixed site needle and syringe exchange.
What better way to put an MA in history and an old heroin habit to use!

well, recent studies have shown that if a chick wants to pick up (and she's over the age of 30), she should start going to car and computer shows (swapmeets and stuff)...
That sorta explains the correlation between us car enthusiasts and IT proffessions..
rock on.
