The Perfect Run catalogue says you cannot install these on 1JZ VVTI engines.

Thanks, but it actually says "cannot be installed on VVT-i camshaft side.."
Only the Inlet cam utilizes the VVT-i.

I have a pic of Ueno's D1 Soarer (which has the VVT-i motor) with this gear installed on the exhaust cam, which is what I will do.
Just wondering whether it is specific to the VVT-i motor, or if they are the same as non-VVT-i versions..
I have a strong suspicion thay are the same, but will confirm before purchasing...

Cam gears are the same for VVT-i and non-VVT-i.
As I mentioned, I can only use 1, for the exhaust side.
