not really difficult, buy the kit from vpw.com.au or your local speed shop for $50 and drill 4 holes in the floor

basically they are necessary for drag racing ..

they are a safeguard incase the tailshaft snaps - so it doesnt go flying around under the car + cause more dmage ..

a simple loop around the shaft to hold it in place in event of failure

yer i know u need one about 6 inches past the back of the gbox

but if u have a centre bearing not to far past the gbox or in yr case the transfer box

do u still need a tailshaft loop

i remember some rule for the drags many years ago
not to sure if they have changed it now

Ive never read/heard of these before!? Is this a standard thing for drag racing around australia? Like a CAMS rule or somthing specific to the drags at dubbo?

I thought it was to prevent the tailshaft breaking and flipping the car. I also thought it had to be more of a cage over the whole thing than a loop?

AFAIK

Its to stop the car from flipping, or the diff from being ripped out if the tailshaft drops.

It only needs to be a loop of steel just behind the front uni on the tailshaft.

its also to stop the tailshaft ripping through the floor and into anyone in the car

yes its supposed to be a 'cage' around the tailshaft not just underneath it - a lot of people dont realise this

CAMS requires it for speed events eg. hillclimbs, sprints, etc. (L2S licence or higher). not needed for motorkanans

AAAAAHHHHHRRRGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

Please let's not go through all this again!!!
I personally must have answered this question 100 times on these forums last year before the Nationals, and every time I hear those words, "what's a tailshaft loop?" I get a shiver up my spine!

Do a search, ALL of the aboce questions have been covered in DETAIL!

Re: Tailshaft loop on a Gt4? Thu, 29 January 2004 01:54 Go to previous message
The rules are a bit silly when it comes to 2 piece shafts. The rules are that it must be within 6 or so inches of the front uni, but the front shaft doesn't have a rear uni, so it can't really drop down if it snaps at the front.
The rear shaft does have a uni at the front & the back, so if the front one snapped it could drop down & catapault the car, so if you were to put a loop in, this would prolly be the best place for it, within 6 inches behind he front uni of the rear shaft.

The scrutineers were rather lax about the loops last year when it came to late model performance cars & early models but with small/NA motors. They never even looked at mine.
But that doesn't mean they'll be the same this year....
